COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Rare Vos is flemmish for "Sly Fox," and the name of one of Brussels’ great cafes. It has a sweetly fruity malt character and yeasty spiciness. A fine dose of yeast permits the beer to mature and mellow in the bottle.

750 ml bottle shared by KnutAlbert. Fingerthick fine-laced offwhite head. Hazy, deep golden colored body. Belgo-yeast, spices and a mild fruitiness in the aroma. Mellow, slight peppery malt flavor. Some yellow fruits and a quite sharp bitterness in the backbone. Smooth in the mouth, medium to light body. Mild spicy and soft malty ending.

Biggish offwhite head doesn’t last. Hazy amber body with vigourous carbonation. Tropical fruity malty honeyish aroma with yeasty herbal notes. Dry-sweet sharpish fruity yeasty taste with soft metallic herbal notes. Soft mouthfeel. Fullish body. Dryish herbal yeasty aftertaste. Nice, mild, drinkable. (0.75l bottle from KnutAlbert.)

True Belgian beer in CNY? Word. I got to sample a variety of Ommegang brews at my college’s pub (yes, Hamilton College has a pub on campus). Anyway, the Rare Vos was delicious. Rich amber color with a frothy head. Spicy with a full body. Bittersweet but smooth. Drink up.

Pours a nice...surprise...amber color with a nice huge off-white head. Smell is pretty floral with some spices. A bit of of citrus fruit as well. The taste is more of the same with a bit of bittersweetness. Mouthfeel is champaign like, only a bit fuller in body. I could polish off this 750 bottle with little difficulty. A very nice brew overall. The best Belgian style Amber I have had to date. Reviewed on: 04-06-2007

Found this one bottled at Binny’s in St. Charles, Illinois, and had it on Election Night 2008. Another amazing brew from Ommegang, which does not disappoint. Beautiful bright orange pour with a thick, frothy off-white head, and a dry spicy, citrusy nose. The flavor is typical for a good Belgian: complex, with buttery smoothness, clover honey, orange peel, spice, a bit of banana, bounces in between sweet and dry. Soft spiciness in the finish, and well balanced. For my 1000th, I could have done far, far worse than this excellent brew!

750 bottle. Nice Belgian with coriander, orange peel, and Belgian ale yeast character. No alcohol on the aroma or flavor. Not my favorite style but very drinkable.

12 oz bottle. Pours a slightly hazy amber with a small fizzy off-white head that faded to a wispy film. Aroma is fairly light, some sweet and fruity malt with a good bit of yeastiness. Brown sugar and light spices. The flavor is on the drier side with a soft maltiness, light yeast derived spiciness, and some dark fruits. Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with fairly active prickly fizzy carbonation. Overall, decent enough, but not a whole lot of depth or character. it would be more drinkable were it not so immensly fizzy.

On tap at Roman’s. Poured a lovely shade of coppery-orange with a well-retained, creamy cap of eggshell head. The aroma was spicy and engaging upfront with crisp autumn-y fruits and a dry Belgian yeast.. pale malt and honey sweetness behind.. nice, well-balanced presentation. The flavor opened with smooth, sweet honey and caramel rolling onto the palate surrounded by dry clovey spices and lightly-toasted banana.. dry on the back with a little fruit skin sourness.. tasty. Medium-bodied with low-to-moderate carbonation and nice spiciness.. dried out on the back. Very good brew.
