mhot55 (99), USA Aug 6, 2007 really loved this one. Nothing hidden, nothing extra, just a nice strong full flavored beer. Pours golden-amber, slightly cloudy, and offers a rich, thick head. tastes like it should- BEER- great malt sweetness and body, good amount of hop bitterness, not alot, but just enough. Clean crisp, even spicey body, good strong carbonation. Great "normal" taste, and dangerously drinkable. Crafty07 (391), Florence, Kentucky, USA Aug 6, 2007 Condioned beers are the way to go. The commerical description describes it perfectly, the active yeast in the bottle DOES allow it mature and mellow.
Color, aroma, finish, all excellent.
dankman38 (228), Somewhere in, Ohio, USA Aug 5, 2007 A great beer for the price $4.99 for a 750ml. bottle (which is a large part on why it got such a high rating). Pours a pleasing amber-orange color and tastes even better. In my opinion it is the finest mid-range Belgian style ale around the U.S.. shigadeyo (2210), Harrison, Ohio, USA Aug 2, 2007 7/12/2007: Ommegang Rare Vos purs cloudy amber with a lasting, dense and creamy beige head. The aroma is mildly sweet, malty and fruity with a notes caramel and oak. The flavor is mellow with a fruity character and an elusive spiciness. Nothing is disctinctive or really jumps out. This beer is medium-bodied and smooth on the palate. The beer was good, but I liked the regular <a href=http://www.ratebeer.com/beer/ommegang/3022/39793/>Ommegang more.
750 mL corked and caged bottle (6.5% Alc. Vol.) shared by Rob. Thank you! Rating #600 for this beer...
lovemyipas (420), sw burbs, Illinois, USA Jul 31, 2007 pours a cloudy orange with a nice two finger fluffy off white head. aroma is a light malt and hops with a fruity characteristic. has a medium body with good lacing and carbonation. flavor is the same as aroma with a little spice. has a creamy slick mouth-feel, and like the bottle says "really mellow". as it warms you can smell and taste yeast and peg out some red apple aroma and flavor. very nice! aroma and flavor do get a little better as it warms. kkearn (995), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 29, 2007 Bottle. Sampled most recently at BCTC 07. Poured Orange-amber with a moderate sized white head. Aroma of hops and yeast with some spicy, herbal character. Flavor is mainly sweet malt, with moderate bitterness, and mild herbal, earthy notes. Smooth bodied and drinkable. legion242 (1572), Richardson, Texas, USA Jul 25, 2007 I had forgotten that I had not rated this back in the day and now I know why- so completely underwhelming that I now know not to bother when there are other great Ommegangs present. Just very plain to me, with the only real character, to me, being the Ommegang yeast strain, and as much as I love yeast, this one is lacking that and any malty goodness I would want from an amber ale. henry3r (586), Wichita, Kansas, USA Jul 23, 2007 The 750ML bottle poured a flat-clear orange-amber colored beverage with an ample white creamy head that was mostly diminishing and left great lacing on the glass. The aroma had that wonderful typical Belgian ale character with lots of Belgian candy sugar mixed with a light fruitiness and a subtle pepper and spice backdrop. It had a medium body with lively, sharp carbonation and a slightly watery texture. The flavor started out with a hint of sourness mixing with the sweet fruit and candy flavors. As it matured on the palate, these gave way to the spiciness hinted at in the aroma. The finish was fairly long and had a nice alcohol warmth at the end.
