Suttree (2702), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Apr 28, 2007 Red, nice sturdy beige head. malty, creamy, cereally aroma. First sip is foamy, perfectly carbonated, and very smooth. Flavor is a great mix sour, bitter and rich, with fruity, cherry-like flavor mixing with caramela nd a touch of smoke. Nice stuff. GG (1613), NorCal, California, USA Apr 27, 2007 Another excellent creation by the folks at Ommegang. This beer has the trademark Belgian complexity without being overbearing in any way. An aroma of yeast, oranges, spices, and toast. Appearance is burnt orange, hazy with a huge off-white head with really nice lacing. Flavors were first and foremost sweet and caramelly, but under that there a nice lingering spicyness which combines well with the hops. I think this would be a fine beer to introduce someone to a Belgian style beer. Nothing too overpowering or too subtle to appreciate. Just plain good. FLnative80 (174), Orlando, Florida, USA Apr 21, 2007 Bottle. 12 Fl. OZ. Cloudy, amber color. Yeasty, citrusy aroma. Fizzy palate. Flavor is a little sweet, then bitter. Not bad, but nothing special. ryan (1774), Beltsville, Maryland, USA Apr 19, 2007 Amber body with large white head. The aroma is bread, cloves and fruit. Flavor is mildly sweet, light spice, some bread and honey. Medium body is soft with light carbonation. zebracakes (1214), Washington DC, USA Apr 18, 2007 Bottle. Pours clear caramel, off white head. Aroma is tangy, funky bleu cheese, spices (breakfast sausage). Flavor is wheat, fruit, bleu cheese. A bit more on the generic side of a saison, and tasey. Also, in Binghamton, NY I can buy this 750ml bottle for $3.88 at Giant Food Market. LinusStick (1831), Moon Twp, suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 15, 2007 A delicious Belgian ale. Pour was a dark hazy brown with a 3 finger puffy off white head. Aroma of yeast. Taste is very yeasty with a lot of spice. Citrus and fruit in the afteraste. VikingHammer (362), Lynnfield, Massachusetts, USA Apr 12, 2007 Pours a copper orange with a 1 finger off-white head. Aromas of citrus and yeast. Bitter throughout with light malt sweetness. Thin mouth feel. Dry finish. BeerBaronLS (85), Grove City, Ohio, USA Apr 12, 2007 750ml bottle.
Smooth and consistently present head. Subtle hints of malty clove and banana sit behind a slightly spiced amber. Could certainly drink a session with these, but not something I’m going to actively seek out.
