dmradus (225), State College, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 18, 2006 This beer is super-hazy, an amber-gold with a large fluffy head that dissipated to leave just a shaving of froth on the top of the brew. Yeast, yeast, yeast is everywhere here. In the nose I get lots of interesting yeast and a small undercurrent of sweet malt. In the taste, much the same: spicy yeastiness, sweet malt, very little hop to be found, although considering the finish on this, there might me a nice little hint of it. More than anything else this is Belgian yeastiness personified. cchubb (73), Minneola, Florida, USA Sep 18, 2006 750ml. Poured with a cream white head with large bubbles. Non-clear golden yellow with lots of suspended yeast. Yeast totally non-flocculating, so even a careful pour would have left 1/2 the bottle behind if I didn’t take some yeast. Aroma was typical Ommegang, sour and spicy with vapors of peach and cherry. Palate was less sour than aroma and about 1/2 way between Duvel and Ommegang Ommegang. The "fine dose of yeast" did cause massive rumbling in my plumbing later that night though. screigh (253), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Sep 16, 2006 Poured a very hazy amber color. Large fluffy head that died down quick and stayed the entire glass. Zero lacing. Belgians always smell like dirty water or dirty bread to me and this is no different. I was expecting a lot of typical candy sugar but this has none. A slight sour taste that seems to start on the roof of my mouth and works its way around to the tip of the tongue. A little spicey, a little sour. Not a big fan of Belgian styles but this is enjoyable. sistinas (60), Tempe, Arizona, USA Sep 14, 2006 Bottle. Pours an orangey-amber with a medium-sized, quickly dissipating head. Yeasty aroma with fruity hints - apricot, plum, some bananas and citrus. Is sweet without being cloying. Stays light on the palate and is really easy to drink despite the amount of alcohol in it. Dry, very slightly bitter aftertaste. Smoove! jcr (1136), Jasper, Indiana, USA Sep 14, 2006 Amber body, small white head, diminishing to islands of bubbles. Yeast and malt nose consisting of fruits including pear, apricot and light plum. Musty earthiness and spice. The flavor is sweet with caramel, sugar and fruit on top of the mustiness. Tasty bitterness toward the end. Palate is clean and creamy enough, though a little sticky. Overall, enjoyable. AskForJenny (627), Ontario, New York, USA Sep 12, 2006 Typical of Ommegang, it’s just a really good brown. Nice thick tan foam over a hazy red/brown liquid. Yeast, malt, a little sweet. HopBackDoc (393), Hatboro, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 5, 2006 Pours a hazy dark amber with off white head. Aroma of fruits and yeast hit the nose right away. fruity, malt flavor, good carbonation with a dry mild bitter finish. A decent Belgian. luiss (89), Elmsford, New York, USA Sep 4, 2006 Updated: Dec 5, 2006One of my favorite Ommegang beers, even after having all the common ones. This beer pours a lovely orange, brownish color with a froathy white head. Initial smell is a bit citrousy, and skunky. The taste is not to overwhelminig starts off a bit sour with a light sweet atfertast which fizzes up in youre tounge. Great beer to enjoy anytime of the year.
