Bottle... Pours hazy and dirty-orange with a mid-sized, fluffy, white head. Good retention. The nose is grainy and spicy - spicy grains mingle nicely with spicy phenols and banana. Full-bodied with a milky mouthfeel and prickly carbonation. The bittersweet flavor and finish offer spicy hops, spicy grains and spicy phenols. Crazy stuff, but it works.

Foamy pour on a dark amber base. The malt and yeast aroma says beer. The flavor is malty with a dash of sharp hops. It is a little like an Oktoberfest. There are some out of place sugars. Brewed with oats and rye along with the barley, and maybe some type of Belgian yeast? Not bad, but not superior. I have been losing interest in Ommegang since they jacked up their prices in the last year or two.

bottle. lightly hazy amber with a medium sized, fluffy, cream colored head. peaches with toasted pie crust in aroma like a peach cobbler. flavor has lots of toast and bready pie crust maltiness. hops taste like bruised peaches. carbonation is a bit fine and nippy, but the thick maltiness and oat addition helps mellow it. medium bodied.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Copper-orange pour with a soapy head that leaves soap lacing. The nose is truly Belgian, with yeast and sweet doughy notes. Flavors of sweet malt, light dough, grains and melony citrus dominate. The finish definitely shows the assertive rye accents. Well-balanced, the mouthfeel is smooth with semi-soft carbonation, leaving a creamy, medium-bodied palate. This is a nice Belgian offering from Ommegang. Thoroughly enjoyable!

Reviewed 10/21/2012. 12 oz. bottle poured into a regular glass.
A: Pours a murky tawny color. The head is a three finger offwhite color with fantastic retention - even after a minute, itís still one finger high. A generally great looking beer.
S: Bready, grainy, and earthy. Itís quite malty, but at the same time, itís fairly hoppy as well. The aroma, in spots, gives off a slightly fruity vibe as well.
T: Iíll give it credit, itís not like anything Iíve had before. The trio of wheat/oats/rye comes through in various points (wheat opens the profile, rye finishes things, and the oats íhold togetherí the profile). Where this shines is in its long lasting and complex finish/aftertaste. This is really good, and the only detraction is the slight plasticky taste from the yeast.
M: A little heavier than I like, but itís still quite easy to drink and creamy smooth. The touch of rye dryness is quite pleasing.
O: This beer just works in spite of how hard it is to categorize and pick apart. This beerís finesse and moderate complexity helps it rise above the average marzen-cum-pumpkin ale.

4 pack. Great looker: clear orange body, impressive head. Although itís not highly hopped, I think itís the combination of yeast spiciness, rye and plentiful carbonation give it a noticeable bite. Underneath is some malt breadiness and citrus bitterness. More dry than sweet, more interesting than standard fall seasonals.

Bottle. Pours a chunky orange with a huge white head and a nose of fresh-cut hay, light pizza sauce, and a touch of wheaty honey. Flavor is bready lemon and light grainy prune in a salad of a bale of hay. Light mouthfeel. Not bad.

Mix of flavors made aroma and taste difficult to quantify with no real distinctive qualities; maltier than I expected.

Bottle: The aroma consists of cotton candy, citrus, a hint of apple, and spice. It pours a mostly transparent orange with a touch of haze and three finger orange tinted off-white head with excellent retention. There are some clumped sheets/rings of lacing left on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with moderate citrus (mostly orange) with some light-moderate cotton candy. The finish has light orange peel, spice, and a touch of floral notes. At times I do get a hint of metal. Itís medium bodied with soft carbonation and mouthfeel.
