Scythe & Sickle Harvest Ale is brewed with barley, wheat, oats and rye. Scythe and sickle is a seasonal brew that celebrates the richness of the grain harvest. Brewed with barley, wheat, oats and – in a nod to traditional upstate New York grains – rye, this fine ale is malty and creamy on the palate. The flavors of the grains and earth shine through. Enjoy the refreshment of the season and joys of fine brewing.

Sampled on tap at the 2nd annual Urban Chestnut Wolpertinger party in a dimple mug. It poured a beautiful orangish-amber colour with tall off-white foam and lots of Belgian lace. Aromas of lively Belgian ale yeast, nice fruity esters, black pepper and clove phenols, even more so as it warmed. Nice, subtle malty flavors, likely a blend of pilsner and some caramel, grainy with hints of vanilla, marshmallows, some earthy and resiny hoppy essence. Light-medium body, above average carbonation, lingering bittersweet aftertaste with eventually finished with a crisp snap. I liked this one, I hope to find it again someday.

Bottle. Grainy malt (rye dominates) aroma with a hint of lemon and cherry. Golden yellow with giant fluffy head. Sweet-tart lemon and grainy malt flavor - again, rye seems to be the most prominent but a nice blending. Mildly bitter lemon peel finish. Very tasty.

12 oz bottle. Pours hazy orange amber with a monstrous rocky white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is subdued - grainy malts and a little fruit with some floral perfumey hops.

The flavor is sweet grainy malts, a little fruit and a little rye with a medium bitter finish. The mouthfeel is medium to full bodied with smooth carbonation.

Overall, it’s a decent amber but a bit uninteresting and pricey at $11 per 4 pack.

Yeasty, ester and spice filled aroma. Hazy orange with long lasting foam head. Nice bitter front, almost a sourdough finish. Like many rye ales, it’s heavier than you think at first, and kind of chewy. Very delicious beer as expected from this brewer. RB needs a rye specific category as there are so many these days.

A hazy, amber pour with a large, frothy white head. The aroma is a little earthy with some rye bread. It has a medium body with slick texture and lively carbonation. The taste is sweet, but it also has some sour touches toward the finish.

Draft pour. Aroma of bready peach apple with a wonderous head and awesome medium clear dark orange color. Taste is immediate bread malt tree fruit with a settling finish. No lingering effects on this one. One of the best low gravity offerings from Cooperstown.
