COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Scythe & Sickle Harvest Ale is brewed with barley, wheat, oats and rye. Scythe and sickle is a seasonal brew that celebrates the richness of the grain harvest. Brewed with barley, wheat, oats and – in a nod to traditional upstate New York grains – rye, this fine ale is malty and creamy on the palate. The flavors of the grains and earth shine through. Enjoy the refreshment of the season and joys of fine brewing.

12oz to my belly via a glass - nose is citrus and floral with a saison-y yeast smell. Sip adds belgian ale qualities along with a malty backbone. Tastes exactly like what an Ommegang APA would taste like. Great mouth feel. Decent hop presence on the front end but the taste goes away quickly.

12oz bottle - pours amber with off white head and nice lacing. Nose is wheat and floral. Flavor adds caramel and rye. Mildly sweet with light to medium bitterness. Dry and a little gritty. A good brew.

Bottle. Poured a white head with good retention and spot lacing as it recedes. Resin and grapefruit aromas. Crisp and fruity upfront turning slightly astringent in the lasting bitter resin and grainy finish. Too much Belgian yeast for a American Pale Ale.

2012 Flour City Brewers’ Fest. Pours out a light golden-amber. Good head. After things settled down a bit, strong fruity-yeast aromas. Flavor is distinctively of Belgian-type yeast. Good malty backbone, some spice. Lots of fruity yeast. Well balanced and not too heavy. Nice and refreshing.

Fruit cake, spice nose. Clear copper, thin yellow head. Bready, malty, cake, apple core, maraschino cherries. Bread crust finish. Medium body, essy carbonation. Rather like a Biere de garde.
Earlier Rating: 9/2/2012 Total Score: 2.8
Draft: Lemon nose. Hazy copper, thin yellow head. Overripe lemon flavor with a lemongrass finish. Very tame. Sessionable, but too tame. Rare Vos is better.

Pours a dark copper amber with a large white creamy rocky head, some lacing. Aroma of mild sweet spice fruity notes, grains, herbal notes. Taste same as aroma with some notes of yeast and dark grains and grass, some mild spiced sweet fruity flavors and hops bitterness. Palate is a medium body with moderate carbonation, crisp. Finish is mild spiced fruit notes, grains yeast with some herbal hops bitterness. This brew is well balanced. easy on the palate and good drinking.
Earlier Rating: 11/29/2012 Total Score: 3.8
Pours a dark hazy orange with a large beige head, some lacing. Aroma and taste of sweet caramel malt, some earthy spicy rye and fruity notes, yeast and lightly toasted barley. Palate is a medium body with sweet spices and good carbonation. Finishes with sweet malt, spicy fruity notes, rye, yeasty and bready notes with some spicy hops bitterness on the end for balance. Overall a very good and flavorful seasonal brew.

Pours clear, bubbly amber with a thick and rather persistent eggshell head. Strong, yeasty, malty aroma grabs the ol’ sniffer from 30-40 cm away, and as you get close in reveals a subtle fruity note. Flavor echoes the aroma but with less yeast and fruit, and adds a hoppy undertone to the mix. It seems to get a little better with each sip. Fizz and body are only average, but it leaves a tasty finish. Happy harvest time - in the northern hemisphere, anyway.
Earlier Rating: 9/24/2012 Total Score: 3.3
Malty aroma is not strong, has an earthy undertone. Pours a nice bubbly orange-amber with a thick and rather persistent cream head. Flavor has malt, wheat and rye components with an earthy undertone and just a whisper of hoppy bitterness. Texture has about average body and a decent amount of tingle. Finish is earthy with hints of rye and wheat. Overall, not great, but interesting!

Orange pour. Subtle Belgian yeast esters with a touch faint citrus. Flavor is lightly sweet grain and Belgian yeast and light fruit skins. Great carb level. Ommegang style.

Orange amber pour. Nose of Belgian yeast, mild toasted malt, and faint rye. Flavor is mildly sweet and fruity with toasted malt and faint rye malt. Mild body boost from the oats. Pretty good.

Good stuff. Fruity yeasty spicy nose. Dark hazy orange with nice lacing rings. Peppery yeasty malty palate with caramel. Tasty.

Bob had this in his fridge. I almost paid big bucks for a bomber at one point so this was a nice find. Dark amber, a bit hazy. Spicy, yeasty nose, very interesting and good. Hefty full palate. Ry and spice is there, the sour balances this as I don’t detect much going on in the hops department. Very interesting and good. Dry finish.

Draft at the Amsterdam ale house NYC. Pours an amber color with a thick foam head. Not sure why it's categorized as an American pale ale. Taste more of a specialty grain hence the name. Pretty good
Earlier Rating: 9/27/2012 Total Score: 3.3
bottle. light tan color with a huge head. really big. taste is sweet, bready and slightly fizzy. Not as good as i expected. but ok
