3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 16/20 jefcon (1204) - Arlington, Virginia, USA - OCT 12, 2012Kind of a puzzle. Deep malts yet really carbonated. Lots of rough rye but creamy head and aromas. Awfully complex and compelling but really like a bag of grain. Belgian label, American born. This is a contradiction beer, for sure, but it has all the aggressive hallmarks of an earthy rustic American ale. For that, I commend it. As a Belgian, however, it is rough-hewn and unfinished. It lacks the special yeast that would have made this beer delicate.

On tap at GABF. Pours with a clear golden hued body with a large and long lasting white head. Aromas are grassy and grainy, with light brown sugar, and some alcohol. Flavors are malty and grainy, lightly spicy, hay, fruity, apricot, floral. Very lively carbonation with a dry finish.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Indra (2476) - Overland Park, Kansas, USA - APR 28, 2013
12oz. bottle. Pleasantly complex aroma, lightly sweet and fruity with notes of golden apple, pear, melon, citrus, honey, light caramel, and a heavy dosage of spicy, peppery, doughy yeast, some hints of clove and banana here as well. Hazy light-medium orange amber color, with a foamy, lasting, large-bubbled head of white and plenty of thick lacing to boot. Flavor profile is gently sweet, fruity and spicy, with suggestions of lemon and spice from the rye, with a tropical fruit blend, estery yeast, faint caramel and touches of bready, grainy malts and faint herbal hop tones appearing late. Bitterness is fairly minimal. Highly effervescent, light and smooth on the palate, no doubt courtesy of the oats, with a medium body. Maybe just another generic Belgian-style ale from this brewer, but a well executed and tasty one.

12oz bottle in a tulip. Pours deep amber with a lacy, off-white head. Aroma of caramel and pale malts, some spicy rye notes, and floral hops. Flavor the same, with a nice amount of hops and malts for a good balance. Average texture. Not a bad beer.

It poured an orange/amber color with a white head. The aroma was light maltiness with some yeasty spice. The taste was bready with a little rye and some grainy hints of tropical fruit and spice. Good stuff.

Pours a dark golden color with an active two finger head. Nice take on a wheat beer. Much heartier taste and aroma. Full of grains and and Belgian like yeast.

On draft at Tap 25. I was excited about liking this one because it was labeled as a biere de garde, my least favorite style. Oh well… It pours an orange color with an off white head. The aroma is floral and minty with some ginger/lime spice. Very interesting. The flavor is floral, spicy, minty with some light fruit and bread in the finish. Foresty spruce and spices in the finish. I thought I had finally tried a proper biere de garde. The search continues.

I’m not the greatest lover of Autumn beers, but this is delicious. Pours a dark gold with a sizable, lingering white head. Full mouthfeel. Malt, grain, grass, loves, biscuity malts, honey, toffee
