COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Scythe & Sickle Harvest Ale is brewed with barley, wheat, oats and rye. Scythe and sickle is a seasonal brew that celebrates the richness of the grain harvest. Brewed with barley, wheat, oats and – in a nod to traditional upstate New York grains – rye, this fine ale is malty and creamy on the palate. The flavors of the grains and earth shine through. Enjoy the refreshment of the season and joys of fine brewing.

Draft. Poured a nice amber color with some foamy white head. Great balance between all of the grains with the rye adding a nice slightly peppery touch. Great malt flavors made this very enjoyable.

Bottle.

Light brown pour with red highlights, abundant fluffy tan head. Nose is grassy hops and stale beer and that dense whole-grain German bread. The flavor brings a lot of the earthy bitter-yeast Ommegang house character that I just have a hard time getting in to. Here it doesn’t blend particularly well with warm sweet malts. Notable rye spiciness. It’s not difficult to finish, but nor is it worth seeking out.

Pours orange-brown in color with a super thick off white head. Aroma is wheat, light grains and syrup. Taste very pleasant and mild grains with a little faint astringency in the mid and not much finish. I like it, but it’s lacking in complexity. No hop bitterness to speak of - just very light malts.

On tap at the Flying Saucer Garland. Poured a clear golden amber with a white top. Taste of wheat, oats, earth, and rye. Medium carbonation, medium body. Not too shabby

Rye really translates neatly in this one with a good bit of spiciness. Has a sort of rye saison quality like Saison Rue. Medium sweetness. Definitely "earthy" like the name would imply.

Bottle poured a cloudy orange hue w/ huge beige head and sticky lacing. Moderate to bold sweet fruity aromas. Initial flavor is moderate to bold sweet w/ a moderate bitter finish. Tastes are apricot, barley, rye, grass, and straw. Full bodied and creamy mouthfeel.

Aroma of roasted malt and banana nutty Belgian yeast. Flavors are the same with a nice hop balance and a slight sweet malt/yeasty finish. Balanced and full flavored. One of my favorite seasonal a from ommegang. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Hazy light brown, big frothy head. Not much aroma - some bread, some pepper, some light fruity smells. Rich mouthfeel. Taste is toast, some mild fruity flavors, and some yeasty sweetness. Not bad.
