COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Scythe & Sickle Harvest Ale is brewed with barley, wheat, oats and rye. Scythe and sickle is a seasonal brew that celebrates the richness of the grain harvest. Brewed with barley, wheat, oats and – in a nod to traditional upstate New York grains – rye, this fine ale is malty and creamy on the palate. The flavors of the grains and earth shine through. Enjoy the refreshment of the season and joys of fine brewing.

4 pack. Great looker: clear orange body, impressive head. Although it’s not highly hopped, I think it’s the combination of yeast spiciness, rye and plentiful carbonation give it a noticeable bite. Underneath is some malt breadiness and citrus bitterness. More dry than sweet, more interesting than standard fall seasonals.

This beer tastes like the first sight of Main Street, but with a bitter cereal finish. The aftertaste is also bitter, like biting into a plant, and lingers. It has a general beerish smell--apparently nothing else stood out to me about the aroma as I was taking my notes. There is also a vague candy/malt flavor. I did not note it as such, but I believe the particular candy I was thinking of was taffy. This beer is best enjoyed when sips are followed by a spoonful of vanilla ice cream and while at Disney World. In a pinch, if either or both of those conditions are unavailable, the first hour or so of Pleasantville will do.

Transfer from BA review on 9-26-12- Served on tap in a pint glass Appearance – Served a hazy copper-orange colored brew with a one finger white head. The head faded rather fast to leave a moderate amount of lacing. Smell – The aroma is biscuity and yeasty with notes of banana, some dark fruit notes and a light caramel and citrus sweetness. Taste – The taste begins with flavors of sweet caramel, rye bread and a biscuit like taste. As the flavor advances a lighter yeasty flavor comes to the tongue. The yeast is accompanied by some of the more classic spices associated with the Belgian style beer; peppery, clove and nutmeg. More toward the end some citrus flavors of a more lemon nature mixed with some banana flavors which combine with the rest to leave a pleasant sweet and sour malty flavor on the tongue. Mouthfeel – The body f the beer is rather average in terms of creaminess with a carbonation level that is on the higher side. It is actually quite a refreshing feel for the brew, making it rather easy to drink. It is also surprisingly nice for the rye and bready flavors when mixed with some of the sweeter caramel notes. Overall it was quite nice. Overall – A very tasty beer with a fantastic feel and nice flavor transitions and tastes. It is definitely one to try if you get a chance.

(bottle - 12 oz) Copper pour with an off-white head. Sweet malts with a nice dry rye undertone. Flavor is sweet and bready, almost like a rye bread with some slight molasses. Dry and crisp finish.

Nice beer. Pretty amber. Sweet grains and grass in the nose. Taste brings more yeast and a dominant rye spice. Taste lots of the grain in there. Medium bodied.

Gorgeous pour, cloudy amber with creamy head. Aroma of banana citrus and biscuits. Middle is yeasty, lemon, hay and rye. The high carbonation carries through and lingers as the hops appear and the two finish together and last with some sticky rye sweetness.

Pours a nice amber color with slightly off-white head. Bread, wheat, and caramel malt on the palate, along with some toffee notes; follows onto the palate. Finishes with just a bit of spice.

[Tap] Light amber/darker golden pour with a fleeting fizzy head. Sweet breads and caramel in the nose. Lighter rye spice hints as well. The taste is of multigrain bread, with rye being the most prominent flavor note here and wheat hardly making an appearance. Mild grass and earthy hop notes as well. High carbonation. Dry and earthy finish. Pretty good.

Amber with a large and foamy off-white head. Smooth and balanced, hints of orange and malt leading to a bit of peppery spice and mild hops through the finish.
