COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A BELGIAN LOVE AFFAIR Ommegang Seduction is lovingly brewed with six dark malts. Chocolatier Callebut provides the chocolate, while Liefmans brings the cherries. This international romance is consumated with a full body, alluring aromas and flavors of Belgian chocolate, and tart cherries. Seduction is an ale to be lovingly embraced. Beautiful, rich and smooth, roasty and malty throughout, Seduction offers balanced chocolate-cherry notes, a bit of caramel sweetness, and a long, slow finish. Seduction is welcoming and warm-hearted, gently hopped and harbors no bitterness, leaving only a lingering glow.

Listed as a Belgian Porter (vs. generic ale). Bottle for "Friendsgiving" event. Mahogany (spelled that one correctly right off the bat for the first time!) with swirls of sediment. Fine, thick tan head that reduces moderate-fast to a film. Aroma is of chocolate, lakewater, deep wet vegetation and rich earth, slight burnt bark. Flavor is amazing, bready (raisin bread?), light generic fruit (pear and apple), some bread crust (not overly roasted though), yeast, light blended spice. Light body on the watery side with a distinct moderate prickliness.

750ml bottle 10/5/13 (Binny’s Downers Grove)-44° in Trappist Glass-Pours a dark brown with a small tan head with an aroma of chocolate, cherries, and yeast. Taste of chocolate, tartness, cherries, malt, and raisin. This full bodied brew is well balanced and goes down easy. Purchased recently and it has old style labeling so even thoug super tasy wonder what it would of been like fresh.

A steady pour into my teku glass produces a two-finger thick, lightly browned, tan colored head. The beer is a dark, chocolate brown color that shows an opaque, but concentrated, browned, amber hue when held up to the light. The aroma has quite a bit of dark fruit to it with notes of caramelized raisin, some fig, and definite prune, but this is mixed in with an earthy, rich maltiness that provides a toasted whole grain edge to the fruit. There is a nuttiness that is brought out by the malt, and perhaps a touch of oxidation. As the beer warms up some cherry notes start to come through, and perhaps a bit of dusty cocoa.

The beer has a light sweetness to it up front that is accentuated and becomes a bit more as the beer flows across the tongue. Flavors of caramelized cherries, brown sugar, sweet brown bread, lots of raisin and prune like notes, some earthy toasted / roasted grain notes, and perhaps a touch of chocolate flavors are all pretty easy to notice. There is a light tartness to it (normal yeast character though), that boosts the fruit character a bit. The beer is quite light bodied and quaffable, but still has enough viscosity to sit lightly on the palate after each sip; the carbonation is a touch prickly, lends a bit of a soft carbonic bite, but is not aggressive. Nice toasted nutty notes, caramelized brown bread toasted character, some sherry character (both nut and fruit), some light toasted grain chalky notes.

I have no idea how old this is, I recently purchased it, and it is their older style labels, but it seems like it might have aged for a couple years. This has held up pretty well, regardless of the time, and is still pretty tasty. The chocolate doesn’t play too much of a role, did it ever?, and the cherry notes are dominated now more by prune and raisin notes, but neither of those things are a bad thing.

Just beautiful. Belgian yeast zing, over a chocolatey porter base with an infusion of cherries. Flavor-wise, the chocolate and the cherries harmonize perfectly, and are just on the more pronounced side of subtle in effect. Not a sweet beer, but instead quite nuanced. The Belgian angle is icing on the cake. Recommended! A- ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
