COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Three Philosophers is a remarkable limited edition strong ale brewed by Brewery Ommegang in response to a home brewer’s description of his dream beer. Realbeer.com, the internet’s largest beer website, hosted a contest called “Create a Great Beer.” Brewery Ommegang was chosen by Realbeer.com to brew the Belgian-style ale for the winning essayist. Noel Blake, a home brewer from Portland wrote the winning description for what his “dream beer” would be like.

A very strong flavor and great taste, but I would have to say it is similar to their Abbey Ale, which is the only downside I have for Three Philosophers

From the caged and corked big bottle purchased at Giant Eagle in Pittsburgh. While I really felt compelled to try and like this special beer, I can’t go overboard or even award high marks for what amounts to an average Joe kind of Quadrupel. Granted, there aren’t many Quadrupels on the market, so maybe I just don’t have the proper palette, but my friends who shared the bottle with me over a few games of Ultimate Werewolf were also unimpressed, and politely said "it’s pretty good" or other lackluster responses. Perhaps the best thing about Three Philosophers is the mystery of the bottle and who the "Three Philosophers" might be? If anyone knows, please write and help those of us who have spent too much time at work trying to figure out this mystery for ourselves.

Bottle. Brown colored beer with a very complex herbal aroma and taste. Some anice (?), malty sweetness, caramel and banana. Nice balanced beer. Medium bodied.

Good taste, spritzy beer, and has flavor with bitterness at the end. The color and aroma was perfect, but perhaps my snack choice messed up my taste buds, but my taste changed a bit. Other then that I recommend this beer, but not to enjoy sociable but to enjoy gracefully comfort of been alone. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Amazing mouthfeel and aroma. Love taste of malty sweey goodness and slight fruitiness...

12 oz bottle courtesy of my wife for Christmas. 2011 on the neck label. The pour is a light haze ruby copper with a 1/2 inch light tan head that falls quick. The aroma is Belgian yeast, black cherry fruit, sort of a cough syrup cherry. Touch of potpourri spice. The taste is black cherry light tart, bit tannic, clove yeast, the general belgian yeast spice. Decent alocohol character in the finish. The palate is heavy to medium bodied, bit oily, dry alcohol finish. Lingering dustiness. Unique beer, just didn’t rerally pull off any of the Quad or Kriek flavors I enjoy.

Brown pour with a smell of cloves and banana. Flavor reminds of fruits and malts. It has a good kick to it with the 10% alcohol. Good beer overall.

Pours like apple cider with a cream colored head. Aroma is ripe fruit and yeast. Flavor of cherries and fantastic belgium ale. Nice alcohol concealment.
