gracefullypunk (272), Washington, USA Jun 27, 2009 Cherry red with a thin beige head. Aromas of malt, yeast, earth and slight cherries--fairly subtle. Tastes just a little of dark fruits, slightly malted, subtle spices. Can taste the alcohol but there really is no lingering aftertaste. Bottle seems a little off and so will rerate if possible. 502Flavors (617), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Jun 25, 2009 2008 12oz bottle. Red pour with slight haze and ncie lace. Aromais light - belgian candi sugar and yeast, with a very slight hint of cherries. The flavor is very hot and all quad... where is the alleged kriek that the quad was blended with? Medium to light body and over carbonated. Overall: what? DerWeg (748), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 24, 2009 Clear ruddy brown with fine medium size tan cap that settles in the Westmalle chalice. Faint sweet aromas and good flavors of cherry, dry plum, apple, raisi,n caramel and some spice. Some wine-like tartness and a touch of hop dryness are interesting. Alcohol is forceful before I chill it down. Moderately full body, some nice stickiness. Aroma is a bit short. Ommegang makes a few fine beers that seem restrained and maybe a little too understated to really stand out. Nothing wrong with ’em though. Polite refined belgians! Dacrza (245), Great Meadows, New Jersey, USA Jun 23, 2009 A soft brown body pours out into a Chimay goblet; off-white, gently settling head--storng head that holds sway...fragrant, ester-laden bouquet strikes immediately--the lambic quality plays nicely in the crisp Hallertauer hops--malts are balanced well enough to hint at something amber...light, soft flitter on the lips and teeth; smooth enough to sneak through to the throat without much fanfare...definite acidic grape presence...hops keep the taste tartthe 9.8 % alcohol is present, yet overall accomplishes a mellow, malty finish; almost no aftertaste--this beer excels in its self-control... a wonderful Easter ends with this Quadrupel, amd a great end at that--with the bold passion of a merlot, Three Philosophers displays body and taste sophisticated enough... the Ommegang guys miss little, and this beer could keep me philosophical with a rather clear buzz as the bottle drains... jsh12bama (335), Alabama, USA Jun 19, 2009 Pours brown with thin off white head. Aroma of raisins and cherries. Taste of dark fruits, yeast, and slight spicy flavor. Some notes of caramel in the finish. yobdoog (1426), Woodridge NY, New York, USA Jun 18, 2009 Lately this seems to have gotten a bit sweeter. Less tart cherry aspect more malt sweetness. Still a very nice beer and ages for a few years. Also was fortunate enough to try batch 1 recently. Supposedly with no Kriek added but still had a slight sour thing going on. Maybe it is age. ChrisThomson (380), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 12, 2009 Bottle. This a tasty brew, but a little too much of the kriek character for me to rank it amongst my favourite quads. Pours deep ruby red with beige head. Nose big on cherries. Flavour has more cheery, spices, and caramel. vtafro (452), , New Jersey, USA Jun 8, 2009 Bottle. This quad is full of fruit flavor and you can feel the alcohol presence but not too much.
