Commercial Description:
Three Philosophers is a remarkable limited edition strong ale brewed by Brewery Ommegang in response to a home brewer’s description of his dream beer. Realbeer.com, the internet’s largest beer website, hosted a contest called “Create a Great Beer.” Brewery Ommegang was chosen by Realbeer.com to brew the Belgian-style ale for the winning essayist. Noel Blake, a home brewer from Portland wrote the winning description for what his “dream beer” would be like.

Lately this seems to have gotten a bit sweeter. Less tart cherry aspect more malt sweetness. Still a very nice beer and ages for a few years. Also was fortunate enough to try batch 1 recently. Supposedly with no Kriek added but still had a slight sour thing going on. Maybe it is age.

Bottle. This a tasty brew, but a little too much of the kriek character for me to rank it amongst my favourite quads. Pours deep ruby red with beige head. Nose big on cherries. Flavour has more cheery, spices, and caramel.

Bottle. This quad is full of fruit flavor and you can feel the alcohol presence but not too much.

Rich and full of malt. Black cherries, concord grape, a hint of alcohol, but not too much. Good looking beer - dark with good carbonation and nice lacing.

Bottle @ København Ølfestival 2009. The aroma has apple, grass, raisin, cherries and caramel malts. Hazy, red-brown coloured beer with an off-white, thin head. The taste is sweet, slightly alcoholic, has some sugar and some grass. Well brewed.

On tap at the Muddy Pig. Pours brown with a decent beige head. Sweet cherry, caramel malts, spicy yeast. Tastes a little weaker than it smells.

Pours a ruby deep brown. Nose is a melody of dark fruits, belgian yeasts, plum, raisin, candy sugars, earthy hops. Flavor is much of the same. Sweet malt flavors mixed with rich fruits. Dry finish. Lovely beer.
