Commercial Description:
Three Philosophers is a remarkable limited edition strong ale brewed by Brewery Ommegang in response to a home brewer’s description of his dream beer. Realbeer.com, the internet’s largest beer website, hosted a contest called “Create a Great Beer.” Brewery Ommegang was chosen by Realbeer.com to brew the Belgian-style ale for the winning essayist. Noel Blake, a home brewer from Portland wrote the winning description for what his “dream beer” would be like.

(Draught at Ft. Worth Flying Saucer) Pours clear brownish-red, little bubbles on top. Nose of cherries and dried fruits with light chocolate. Taste is cherries, dried fruits, and chocolate, quite sweet without any roastiness whatsoever. A nice creamy finish too, but perhaps slightly syrupy.

The cherry aroma is overwhelms the first sniff, but as the beer warms in the glass, the aroma more complex with hints of citrus and sugar. The flavor is good, very fruity, containing a complex sweetness. Nice color and nice thickness, creamy but slightly crisp.

Draft: Apple and brown sugar aroma. Cloudy brown with a thick yellow head. Malty flavor which tastes as it smells, with a spider web imperssion. Apple core finish.

The head on this one was awesome. Very alive beer. Nice carbonation and great color. Smells just as good as it tastes. Rich colors and rich taste. Taste like a great Belgian beer with the twist of cherry thrown in. Loved the alcohol finish. Speaking of cherry totally caught me off guard at first! (should have read the label) but loved them. Very strong cherry taste comes through near the end of this delicious beer. 9.8 ABV... oof what a good one. Lots of bread , flavor galore and the head was fizzing like crazy and actually grows which is really cool and gives this one a great personality. Three philosophers = three thumbs up!

This beer has a nice mild barley wine aroma with a hint of fruit. The feel is not too thick. It hits the tongue with a subtle malt taste and finishes with a note of raisins.

Cloudy amber-brown pour with a disappearing head, aroma has strong fruit and yeast. Flavor is strong with cherry and roasted caramel, great mouthfeel. Finishes fantastically smooth, strong alcohol presence.

Bottle. Definite cherry smell and taste, as advertised. It has the quad feel to it - the richness, the spiciness, the dark fruits, but it’s balanced with the cherry flavor. I like cherry flavor, don’t get me wrong, but I honestly think it would be better sans cherry. I liked it, I’ll buy it again, but I wasn’t "oh my god" wow’ed by it.
