COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Three Philosophers is a remarkable limited edition strong ale brewed by Brewery Ommegang in response to a home brewer’s description of his dream beer. Realbeer.com, the internet’s largest beer website, hosted a contest called “Create a Great Beer.” Brewery Ommegang was chosen by Realbeer.com to brew the Belgian-style ale for the winning essayist. Noel Blake, a home brewer from Portland wrote the winning description for what his “dream beer” would be like.

From bottle. Maroonish dark amber color. Aroma is pitted fruit, light yeast, candi sugar, and molasses. Taste is plum, molasses, cola, yeast, banana, and oak. Effervescent and light mouthfeel for such a high alcohol beer.

Bottle. Dark ruby red pour with an off white head. Dark fruit, dry cherry wine, candy sugar sweetness playing off a bit of dankness in the taste and the aroma follows suit. Exceptional quad.

Purchased at Bottles and Cans in Chicago, IL; enjoyed at home on a stormy late spring night. Not sure why it’s taken me so long to try this. Appearance is a very cloudy dark brown with a rich light tan head. Aroma is abundant in clove, Belgian yeast, dark fruit (plum), smell is pretty nice. Taste is heavy on raisin and dark fruit, finish is dry, moderate carbonation, light sweetness. This is a good quad.

Very sweet aroma. Sweetness bursts onto the tongue and then various flavors reveal as it smoothes. It's certainly sweet, but not overly. It's enjoyable. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Weird that for whatever reason I do not get much scent from this. Cannot say "notes of..." anything. Not unpleasant smell, just more lacking. Appearance is very dark with a tan head. Held to the light you can see a dark ruby hint to it. Very smooth. Cannot really taste the alcohol so much as feel it. A bit of carbonation on the tip of tongue upfront but middle to end is just smooth. I love Belgium trappist beers, and though this is not one, it immediately makes me think of it. One I cannot point out hints of anything in particular, but I don’t care as I just enjoy the heck out of it.

Pours big carbonation with dark caramel brown appearance. Sweet palate with a medium body. Tastes of dark fruit with a boozey aftertaste. Very tasty

Three Philosophers is my favorite beer from Ommegang. It has a nice complexity to it and it is rather smooth to me for being a strong ale. I drink it and don’t really feel a 9.7 ABV beer when it is going down. I’ve had several of these and it is one of the few beers I buy regularly.

Corked bottle pour. Pours dark ruby with a fizzy disappearing head. So much dark fruit here. Plums and a little cherry. Bold flavor, but a little sweet at the same time. Finishes semi sweet fruit sugar. A lot of flavor in this. Quite impressed.

Full aroma of spices, candies and peppermint. Beautiful brownish red color. Tan head is full and lasts forever. Carbonation bubbles up like a volcano. Rich sweet, spicy candies up front. Notes of raisins, a other fruits. Followed quickly with an alcohol burn and bitter hops with roasted malt notes. Finish lingers...mostly bitter...but warming. Solid
