3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
.75cL bottle poured into a goblet. Right off the bat, there’s a very sweet aroma, mostly manifesting itself as cherry, raisin, and cranberry. As it mellows, the cranberry aroma becomes the most prevalent, the cherry takes a back row seat, and the raisin disappears. There’s also a doughiness that pops up while there’s still a big fluffy head, but when the head disappear, so does the doughiness. There’s also some trace notes of banana, vanilla, caramel apple, candy corn, and cinnamon on the nose. I even thought I picked up some metal / dirty penny smells. The hazy amber / copper beer is topped by a fluffy white head that recedes slowly. It leaves a decent amount of cloudy head that laces the glass in abundance ... but it’s a runny lace that doesn’t stick. It’s a medium to medium-high amount of sweetness, but not overwhelming by any means. More of a fruity sweet than a sugar sweet - although there’s definitely some sugar present. There’s a light bitterness towards the finish with a subtle, fruity tartness. This complex, full bodied beer has lots of fizzy carbonation in the mouth which lends itself to a smooth, sticky, and relatively thin texture (for the style at least). The tongue is greeted initially by roasted nutty and dark cherry combined with cranberry. There also seems to be some chocolate in there, and some hints of cinnamon from time to time. It finishes with a mellow burnt bitterness, but this fades and quickly turns to a sweet canned cranberry taste. I say canned cranberry only because there’s a slight metal taste; it’s well hidden, but just enough to be noticeable. A nice, mild alcohol warming comes through late - it doesn’t last long enough to be called the aftertaste, but it appears after I set the glass down. The aftertaste is that of a cran-apple-like juice with some fig and/or raisin notes. I definitely gave this one some extra points on aroma, taste, and palate simply due to the complexity - took me awhile to really fell confident that I knew what was going on with this one, and definitely in a curious way ... I think I just figured out the philosopher part of this one.

3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Presentation: 12 oz. brown bottle served in an oversized wine glass.
Appearance: It has a dark, deep amber color and develops a tan, one finger head. Eventually it dissolves into a ring that sticks around. The lacing is incredible, it covers the whole glass and slowly drips down.
Smell: A sweet malt scent dominates, complemented by a strong ripe fruit note. There’s also an alcohol sting in the background.
Taste: Basically a mirror image of the nose. A strong and sweet malt taste dominates, and is accompanied by ripe fruit and cranberry notes.
Mouthfeel: It’s creamy and smooth, very drinkable. It finishes dry and despite the sweetness it is not cloying whatsoever.
Overall: An amazing beer, with a lot of sweetness from the malt and fruit notes, but so well balanced that it’s not cloying. Despite the high ABV and the fact that it is a bit strong, it’s surprisingly easy to drink.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Tåget, rødbrun. Lille, tæt offwhite skum. Aroma: kirsebær og malt. Prikkende carb, tydelig alkohol. Mere kirsebær, mørk sødme, gær. Stor fylde. Alkohol lidt for skarp for min smag, men ellers virkelig god.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle, 2012 vintage into a tulip. Deep orange/brown amber, sparkling, huge foamy head, foamy lacing. Smell - coins, sweet malts. Body - medium, low carbonation, slightly foamy. Taste - some cherry, bready sweet malts. Everything is very toned down. This is a below-average quad. Maybe the worst example I’ve tried. An expensive flop.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Aroma: Heavy fruit, but also a whiff of tobacco.
Appearance: Gorgeous darkness, like an Abt 12. Thick white head.
Taste: Booziness is well-hidden by the strength of the sweetness, notes of blackberries, currants, chocolate.
Palate: Very creamy, very little bite.

My first beer from Ommegang, and it didn't disappoint. The subtle addition of cherry ale leaves just a hint to the aroma and taste. Nice job.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
750ml corked and caged bottle into a Trappist glass; served cold.
Aroma: A little cinnamon. Lightly boozy. Just a little bit of cherry/raspberry aroma. Quite nice!
Appearance: Clear, dark, ruby body with a thin, khaki, cap. Light lacing.
Taste: Just barely a little tart, some mild spice. A teen bit of sweetness.
Palate: Medium+ body, with a short finish that ends on caramel malt.
Overall: Pretty nice. Not too heavy, not too boozy, with just the right amount of sweetness.

Drought. Brown hazy apperance with small beige foamy head, caramel aroma, alcohol tainted caramel taste, low carbonation, long finish with strong alcohol aftertaste. A bit too strong in the aftertaste.

3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
750 ml bottle poured into goblet. Clear reddish-brown color with a finger of silky off-white foam that quickly reduces to a shimmery meniscus. I admittedly don’t have a great sense of smell, but the aroma seems especially faint to me. What I can detect is caramel malt and a touch of cherry. Flavor follows suit, with a slightly sweet maltiness up front with the slightest bit of tartness in the finish. Mouthfeel is very smooth, and conceals its alcohol well. I’d consider this a good, but not outstanding quad.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Clear reddish brown of color with an off white head. An aroma of seets, raisins, syrup and honey. A flavor of malt, raisins, prunes and a weak bitterness in the finish.
