COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Three Philosophers is a remarkable limited edition strong ale brewed by Brewery Ommegang in response to a home brewer’s description of his dream beer. Realbeer.com, the internet’s largest beer website, hosted a contest called “Create a Great Beer.” Brewery Ommegang was chosen by Realbeer.com to brew the Belgian-style ale for the winning essayist. Noel Blake, a home brewer from Portland wrote the winning description for what his “dream beer” would be like.

Pours deep copper with tan, clingy head. Aromas of cherry, molasses, caramel, malt and spice. Taste is cherry, yeast, caramel, faintly boozy. Overall it's solid, but unremarkable. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a brown copper color with a huge tan head. Nose of Caramel malts, plums and dark cherrys, some molasse and a bit of spices. Also some brown sugar and a bit of alcool notes. Medium sweetness on the taste. Medium to full body with small to medium carbonation. Finish is medium alcool. Pretty easy to drink for a 10% beer and pretty solid all around

Bottle shared with Chump during Super Bowl. Sweet aroma balanced with malt, hop, booze. Notes of oak, caramel, molasses, dark fruits. Eclectic. Very smooth. God-like. Delicious too. Alcohol disguised well.

It’s about time I rated this. 12oz bottle, no date. Enjoyed 4 degrees warmer than recommended... 54 degrees. Forgive me. Pours dark brown with a bit of dark red and a light beige head. Nice aroma of dark malts, dark cherry and just a hint of clove. Clove is stronger on the palate, with caramel, banana, and a hint of dark cherry in the finish. Goes down super easy!

2014 bottle in LA. Pours very dark brown with off-white head. Very rich aroma, malt and dark fruit esters. Flavour has strong fruity esters - raisin, plum. A hint of cherry and a little tartness. Medium-high carbonation and moderately bitter and dry finish. Excellent quad!

Cherries, molasses, bread, figs, caramel in the nose. Dark brown with thick but light head. Taste same as nose, with vinous character. A little bit tea as well as sourness at the end.

Aroma: sweet cherry pie aroma with a backdrop of vanilla. Maple syrup and dark car as is also prevalent and secondary for me. Hop aroma not really apparent. Appearance: very dark copper and hazy. Cream colored head which surprisingly dissipates rather quickly into a thin sliver. Taste: much less cherry and much more sweetness, reminds me a little of oven roasted sweet potatoes drizzled with some maple syrup. Moderately sweet, but I think it’s mostly due to the very low bitterness. There is almost no bitterness at all present. Palate: medium bodied on the body and pretty clean finish considering the alcohol level. Pleasantly creamy texture but not the carbonation I was expecting. Very long sensational finish. Like many beers, I’d rather drink this warmed up to about 50 degrees, but in a weather-appropriate situation. The one area I was disappointed in was the appearance, as the carbonation wasn’t what I expected. The aromas and finish, however were unbelievable. A very memorable beer.

Serving: from bottle purchased at The Beer Junction. Aroma: light citrus, soap, cherry and leather. Appearance: average-sized, frothy, off-white, initial head with fair lacing and mostly diminishing longevity. Hazy, dark-orange body. Taste: lightly sour initial flavor and heavily sweet finish with average duration. Palate: light-medium body, syrupy texture and fizzy carbonation. Overall: interesting flavor and aroma.
