Commercial Description:
Three Philosophers is a remarkable limited edition strong ale brewed by Brewery Ommegang in response to a home brewer’s description of his dream beer. Realbeer.com, the internet’s largest beer website, hosted a contest called “Create a Great Beer.” Brewery Ommegang was chosen by Realbeer.com to brew the Belgian-style ale for the winning essayist. Noel Blake, a home brewer from Portland wrote the winning description for what his “dream beer” would be like.

pours a red color with a great big head that quickly dissipates to a small film. spicy with an acrid, acidic cherry flavor that cuts in sharply across the malt flavors

Bottle. Pours a rusty red with tan head which disapperars quickly. Aroma is malty sweet with a hint of spice, nutmeg mostly. Sweet flavor with hints of cinnamon, cherries, banana, and malt. Nice palate, has a kick without being too fizzy. Alcohol is present. Very good, worth a try.

Reddish copper color with a generous head. Interesting beer, the lambic adds a twist. Noticeable alcohol strength. Cherry and sweet maltiness in the flavors and the aromas.

750 ml. from Trinity Liquors in Spring Hill, FL. Aroma of toffee, malt, and some alcohol coming through. Pours red/brown color with a thin beige head. Flavor is great; mollasses, toffee, alcohol, a bit or cherry. Pretty smooth on the palate. Very very solid...a great beer to drink in the winter....Just another solid selection from Ommegang.

2008 bottle, OMG was this beer awesome. Pours a murky candy apple red with brownish highlights. Big, fluffy head. Sticky lacing is prominent. Aromas of plum, caramel, licorice, cinnamon, fig, and chocolate. Nice. First touch on the tongue is frothy and smooth. Plum and dark candy, brown sugar, fig, and sweet banana. Don’t get a lot of cherries, but the other flavors really make up for it. Very smooth-bodied, and full and savoring. Very enjoyable i want more.

Perhaps the sweetest Belgian style I’ve tasted. Malty as it should be with cherries, cherries, a little chocolate and brandy and then more cherries. Distinctive taste works well as a 2nd or 3rd round choice as you won’t confuse it with anything else. Very pleasant.

12 oz bottle. Pours a rich caramel brown color with a big foamy tan head that has great retention and very nice lacing. Aroma is slight cherries and a touch of yeast/bread with a slight note of alcohol at the end. Flavor is a semi sweet, malt with a slight fruit, mainly cherry. Very pleasant and enjoyable. Easy to drink, and almost refreshing...? A "refreshing" quad? I’m on crack.
