LilBeerDoctor (1480), East Setauket, New York, USA Nov 27, 2008 2006 bottle. Pours a murky brown with a thick tan head. Aroma of a sweet cherry lambic...ah, I could smell this beer all day! Flavor of sweet cherries, raisin, dark fruits, raisin bread, soda. Smooth mouthfeel. Excellent quad and probably the best of the American versions that I’ve had so far.
bw1982 (70), , Florida, USA Nov 20, 2008 2008 vintage out of small bottle. Pours a very rich ruby/brown color, with very pleasing head and good retention. The aroma is somewhat faint but sweet with some candied malt. The overall taste is sweet, but there is good depth to the flavors, with some raisin and some roasted sugar flavors. I was expecting more sweet/sour cherry flavor but I am actually glad that it ended up being a background flavor, it made it more of a full beer. I liked the carbonation, it was somewhat high which made the beer a little on the thin side, especially considereing the high ABV. Very smooth for a quad, extremely drinkable. It’s worth the money for sure. GAManiac (1124), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Nov 20, 2008 Pours a hazy dark brownish amber with a creamy two-finger head that shows very good retention and lacing.
The aroma is very sweet with candy sugar and caramel malts dominating. There are generous amounts of dark fruits as well, raisins and the like.
The taste is as sweet as the aroma suggests, tons of caramelized sugar, dark fruits and caramel malts. Cherries are in there as well, with a hint of sourness.
The mouthfeel is medium bodied with lots of carbonation. It may be just a tad thin.
This is a decent example of a quad despite not being extremely complex. Very drinkable. CaryTheDude (1113), Longmont, Colorado, USA Nov 19, 2008 Crushed with Jakebra. Cherries on the nose. Flavor, like burnt wood and some awesomeness. Pretty damn enjoyable. Definitely smells better than it tastes, but that smell is beautiful. BelgianBeerGal (1277), Sabbatical in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA Nov 15, 2008 75cl corked bottle from 2007. Let this sit about 18 months before opening. Very easy to drink quad overall. Pours a dark brown with ruby highlights and a tan head that settles quickly. Aroma of candied fruit, oak and sherry. Big flavour that had more fruit notes plus a little yeast. michael-pollack (2606), King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, USA Nov 1, 2008 750ml Bottle: Aroma of cherries, alcohol, grains, malts, and caramel. Poured deep amber with a hint of ruby in color and a large tan head that diminished into a thick film that lasted throughout. Clear. Lightly sparkling. Lightly sweet flavor. Tastes of alcohol, cherries, malts, wood, dark ripe fruits, light tar, and slight chocolate. Medium body. Slightly tingly, smooth texture. Average to lively carbonation. Dry, woody, cherry-sweet finish. Beardface (977), Eugene, Oregon, USA Nov 1, 2008 Pours dark brown with a fresh fruit aroma, mainly bananas and cherries. Smooth and refreshing taste with a nice cherry backdrop and an alcoholic finish. Solid effort and the booze is well masked. soyorganic (217), Denver, Colorado, USA Oct 31, 2008 Bomber 2008: pours dark red/brown with tan head. Aroma: sherry wine with brandy-esque and liqueur notes. This beer started out sharp, dry and with a cherry tartness. Also with a noticeable alcohol taste. It got smoother although still dry, with a slight cherry aftertaste as it cooled. I was hoping for more of a cherry and sweet taste after reading the description on the bottle. But this is quality nevertheless. I bet this taste awesome after being aged longer.
