It smells, pours, and tastes like a good tripel plus a small amount of kriek. What’s more, the total experience exceeds the sum of its parts. The Trappist beers are a bit more complex, but this is very well balanced in every aspect. stchloe (482), Portland, Oregon, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Aug 1, 2008 Updated: Mar 23, 2009PIB ’07 Just retried this beer and more or less blown away. The cherry kriek comes through as a pervasive note. Bready body, very solid, Belgian yeast comes through the quadruppel without overpowering the whole beer. Aquilo (258), California, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Aug 1, 2008 Pours dark red-amber with a huge head. Aroma is sweet like candy. Apples, cherries, yeast, and just a hint of roasted malt. Flavor is full but subtle. More fruit. Apples. Banana. Caramel. Fresh baked bread. It is medium bodied, but light and airy. Very nice all around. I felt relaxed from the first sip. chimaybier (51), Redding, California, USA
| 4.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Jul 31, 2008 This is a great "quad." It has the distinctive "Ommegang" yeast smell; Brewery Moortgat has done a great job with this one. Spced caramel aroma with the Cherry note coming in. Reminds me of a chocolate ice cream with the marachino cherries aroma. Nutty maltiness with the slight Kriek tartness in the finish. Enjoyed in the corked 750ML bottle. A vortre’ sante! | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jul 31, 2008 Tasted during outage: This is another one of those OMG beers with great complexity. Aromas of cherries, bread, caramelized fruits of apricots, peaches, dark fruits. Pours a clear dark mahogany stain, almost enough to block the light. Flavor is just as complex as the aromas coming forth, swirling the glass evokes new delights, palate is creamy, oily and crisp with fine effers that tickle the tongue, overall, extraordinary beer. | 4.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Jul 30, 2008 I won’t go as far to say that this was a perfect beer, but it is so very close. The aroma is wonderful, but I am a cherry lover, so I am biased. The beer itself is cloudy, but not opaque. The flavor hints of cherry, but does not overwhelm, and is incredibly smooth, especially for the high ABV. Yummy, but pricey at 3.50 a bottle around here. I will get some more on my birthday. nqualls (1429), Nashville, Tennessee, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 29, 2008 12 oz bottle purchased from Cool Springs wine and spirits. Pours a clear mahogany color with a 2 finger tan colored head. The aroma consists of cherries and yeast. The flavor is mild alcohol up front and a tart cherry aftertaste. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 28, 2008 [Bottle] Pours a caramelly red with a medium tan head. Aroma is a lot of dark fruit, cherries undoubtedly, and doughy yeast. Flavor is great. Caramelly and spicy, some warming alcohol, and subtle but very well done cherry flavor. Leaves a nice tartness on the edges of the tongue.
