Jblauvs (534), Manchester, New Hampshire, USA Jul 25, 2008 cloudy brown pour, large off white head that remains for a while. sweet, malty aroma with a hint of fruit. sweet molasses up front then a bit of fruity tartness in the middle, the end is surprisingly roasty and dry . Enjoyable. craftycarl21 (513), South Hero, Vermont, USA Jul 25, 2008 brown pour with an amber orange tint. big billowy cream colored head, slow to dissipate- really nice looking beer. Aroma has malt, dark cherry, walnut, some sweetness like cream or vanilla. Flavor is delectable- malty with the sweetness still there, but subtle. I think if it was better aged, seeing as this is the 08, that the cherry would have been more evident. Great mouthfeel, really nice beer. Guinness4Duff (507), Tallahassee (and Poconos, PA), Florida, USA Jul 25, 2008 2007 bottle served in a trappist glass. Somewhat of a cloudy brown pour with a thin tan colored head. Aroma is fruity and alcoholic in a familiar Belgian fashion. Flavor is sweet up front with a tart fruity middle, you can taste the cherries, and finishes with a dry mildly roasted flavor that is rather nice. Not too shaby. BeerGestapo (729), Windsor, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 22, 2008 (USA) Courtesy of AFI96, thanks waylo !! Pours a hazy amber color with a nice med tan head. The aroma is sweet and malty with some fruit and alcohol. The taste is really good, caramel, cherries, and some brown sugar. This brew was extremely yummy and worth a 2nd go around !!! :) brigg (213), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Jul 19, 2008 (bottle) A dark ruby body with a medium light brown head. A rich aroma of apple, cherry, berries, sweet malt and alcohol. It’s full bodied, and has a soft mouthfeel. The flavor is strong with alcohol, wood, berries, chocolate, and some hop and dry malt in the finish. ansermadide (496), Kyle, Texas, USA Jul 19, 2008 (Sample from July 18 Beer Club Meeting) Great light tan head atop a cloudy brown/amber color. Smell is fruity, roasted. Taste is not at all hoppy, more sweet… light somehow, and the fruit… I’m thinking cherries. Sweet but not sugary. More like the sweetness is really coming from the fruit. Reminds me almost of (good) Robitussin. Almost twists the tongue. Fruity aftertaste. A lovely, alcoholic dessert! urbnhautebourg (974), Annapolis, Maryland, USA Jul 16, 2008 I should like tart finishes a lot more than I seem to do. The concept is perfect--take a break from bitterness and end some good malt flavors with a sour snap. I do like them in lighter beers like Gueze, but the flavors here come across like Otto von Bismark--Blood & Iron. ChainGangGuy (2523), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Jul 16, 2008 Appearance: Pours a clear, mahogany-hued body with a small, though diminishing white head.
Smell: Malts drenched in cough syrup and blended with a strong, repellent alcoholic scent like taking a big sniff of rubbing alcohol. Egads!
Taste: Vague upfront maltiness with a sugary sweetness. And while some tartness it coming through, I’m not getting much cherry flavor. Stray bitterness. Splash of Dr. Pepper on the otherwise warm, tart finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Sticky mouthfeel.
Drinkability: I wasn’t overly enthralled with this one, no.
