Ommegang Three Philosophers

Pours a dark hazy amber with a huge frothy head and lots of lace. Rich malt aroma with tones of cherry and sour hints. Starts rich and malty with tones of fig. Gives way to a more sour middle with cherry tones, finishes with more cherry and bit of bitterness. A noticeable alcohol presence. Really really good, the finish builds up a bit too much sour and cherry, but still exceptional.

Quads, Ahoy!!! This is a fine, very spectacular brew. It’s aroma is not as full as would like, but it is fruity with raisins and spicy figs and oak. It’s a bit alcoholic in the nose as well. It’s visual pleasing with a dark crimson color, with a thin foam head. It’s flavor is wild, very complex, but not complicated arrangement. It takes on a charachter of cognac, with distinct oak flavor. It also is full of dark fruits, figs, raisins, sweet malt, and some alcohol. The feel and complexities change in the mouth to a sweet feel, followed by an oak-warming feel. Their is a vinuousness that lends itself to a wine, but a oak cognac burn that makes everything just come together with unbelievable gusto.

rating #800!!! Bottle frm Daknole. thanks! Pours a beautiful dark ruby color, with a luxurious huge beige head. Aroma is dark ripe fruit. Its loaded with plums, and figs, and raisins, even some apple, and a touch of smoke, and sweet malt. Flavour is sweet, with notes of raisins, cherries, soft chocolate, and even some vanilla. Leaves a nice sweet aftertatse with hints of cherry. Nice quad!

Aroma of the flinty gunsmoke you get with pinot grigio. Smoky, fruity and soapy. Beautiful in the glass with delicate off-white lace on top of mahogany, even though the creamy head diminished to a collar of foam after maybe 3 minutes.. Sweet flavor of chocolate, toast, cherries, white grapes, spicy apples and smoked birchwood. Reminds me of late fall in the midwest. Tangy bit of acidic, fruity pectins on the palate; but just when you think it’s going to be boozy- it’s not. Finish is tart for a moment before lingering maltiness prevails. Solid 4.0.

I have been reluctant to try "Belgian Style" brews, mostly sticking to the true Belgian Breweries. This one was very good, smooth. Do not taste the alcohol, the hint of cherries is very subtle. Will have again.

Three Philosophers is my personal favorite of what I’ve had from Ommegang. It pours a deep brown/red. Hints of chocolate and cherries. No taste of the alcohol. Very good on a cold winter night.

A very strong beer with a lovely hint of cherry. Discovered it by accident, definitely glad to have tried it.

I simply love this beer, from the frothy head to the deep ruby color to the complex flavors. I’ve got a 750 ml bottle laid down in my cellar and will see what it’s like a few years.
