WisconsinBeer (514), St Paul, Minnesota, USA Feb 29, 2008 Hazy brown color, medium head. Sweet yeasty bready malts, a bit of ripe fruit, and some alcohol spiciness. Medium palate. A bit syrupy. Seems pretty well made. Tripplebrew (486), Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA Feb 29, 2008 Pours a cloudy amber/copper brown with a thin layer of tan head. Aroma is of malts, caramel and cherry. Taste is light malts and caramel (just hints b/c it does not have large amounts of caramel sweetness)...more tartness to counter the sweetness. Tartness is of fruit, seemingly cherry as it is more tart than sweet. Alcohol presence is perceived to be light...well incorporated because obviously the alcohol content isn’t too light. A pretty good quadruple. HughConway (364), Alabama, USA Feb 25, 2008 Bottle. Thin head deep bronze colour. Slight cherry nose. Mild taste, very belgian, only vague hints of cherry. Carries the alcohol extremely well. gotohelunc (473), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Feb 25, 2008 Bottle. Rich maplewood color with a mild haze and some small floating particles. Pours with a big, soapy head the slowly works its way down to a nice layer that sits on the beer the whole way down. Smells of candied apples, cherries, smoke, and maybe even a little beef. The taste is more mild than the nose and leans toward the fruit/malt side. When sipped slowly as it should be, the taste is quite refreshing and the alcohol completely masked. Bigger swigs definitely show the burn. Very sticky finish, as to be expected with a beer this fruity. Good stuff, and way too smooth and cheap to be 10% alcohol. vadavid (131), Fredericksburg, Virginia, USA Feb 24, 2008 The pour brought forth a rich mahogany liquid with an off-white head that dropped fairly quickly. The aroma of cherries was at the forefront along with some other dark fruits and sweet malt. The dark cherry flavor comes out initially, followed by the rich, sweet malt backbone of a Belgian dark ale. It was slightly tart, and somewhat astringent. The 9.8% ABV can be faintly detected in both the aroma and taste. yngwie (4880), Kristiansand, Norway Feb 24, 2008 Bottle, 75cl corked, from trade with the epeeist. It poured an amber-orange, hazy body under a nice, dense beige head. Cellary start on the aroma, with fruityness, some yeast, a quite heavy malt aroma and a sugary touch. Sugary, malty and fruity flavor with a hint of cellar and yeast, as well as some beef-stock from the malt. Full, sticky body. The finish was long, sugary and malty, and had some hops to give bitterness as well. A really nice beer that grows as you enjoy it. (071228) MrBunn (1521), Western, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 21, 2008 Bottle. Pour is a dark brown body with a very large tan head. Aromas are fruity (maybe my mind is playing tricks, but I think I can pick up a hint of cherry), raisins, toffee and brown sugar with a touch of cloves. Flavor starts out fine enough... sweet brown sugar malt with a bit of yeast and some dates, but then heads a little to the sour cherry side of things and ends with a little bit of alcoholic dryness that seems a little unseemly and, to some extent, destroys the plot development leading up to it. Strangely, it seems like I’m pulling a different experience out of this one with each sip, and while some of them are pleasant, some are trainwrecks where the alcohol gets in the way. blipp (1631), Newark, New Jersey, USA Feb 20, 2008 Bottle. Pours cloudy brown with a beige head. Aroma is rich fruity malt and yeast with notes of cherry and a hint of alcohol. Medium body. Flavor is dark fruit and raisin with a bit of yeast, dried cherry, and again a hint of alcohol which doesn’t really detract from the flavor. Very tasty, very enjoyable.
