Furseth (1328), Kungälv, Sweden Jan 28, 2008 Bottle at 3-små rum Göteborg: Hazy red colour, with a nice head. Aroma of citrus, caramel, dark Chocolate, alcy, and a citric yeasty nose. Flavor almost the same, medium to full body, and a nice medium fruity finish. TheSponge (272), Lynnwood, Washington, USA Jan 27, 2008 750 ml bottle. Pours a dark ruby brown. Aroma: Complex, but the cherry notes definitely come through. Flavor: Cherry, chocolate, and prunes. On a side note: Last year I paired this beer with an Ashton VSG cigar, and it was freakin’ fantastic. larsniclas (3383), Gothenburg, Sweden Jan 27, 2008 Bottled at 3 små rum.
Ruby red with a small head.
Light fruitiness in the aroma.. Malty with hints oc cocoa aswell.
Soft and smooth palate with fruity notes and hints of bitter-almond/cherry-seeds.
Warming alco-feel. illidurit (851), Santa Cruz, California, USA Jan 26, 2008 Poured into Ommegang’s beautiful 10th anniversary glass. Body is UPS truck brown, with 2 fingers of dark tan head. Lacing abounds as the head recedes into a thin cap.
Quite a complex aroma, with a nice strong maltiness and very evident kriek influence. Standard quadrupel notes of dark fruits like raisin and prune.
The kriek manifests as a very dark black cherry flavor with a little bitterness to it. Again, the other 98% of the beer is quadrupel, so you get the standard raisin, prune, plum, dark strong malt, currant, and chocolate notes.
Smooth mouthfeel, good carbonation. Rich and luxurious body. Not a lot of booziness despite the high alcohol. Very easy to drink. scrizzz (1251), kirkland, Washington, USA Jan 24, 2008 faint whiffs of dusty wood and ripe cherries. ruby red/brown, weak fluffy head settled to a creamy thin covering. dusty, even gritty texture, really captures the old abbey style. cherry notes are an welcome delicate accent and the consistent head mellows the edges. PhillyHomeBrew (176), Forest Hills, New York, USA Jan 23, 2008 Reddish brown body with thin white head. Lots of malt with a bit of cherry. There is a bubblegum taste that fades into a lot of cherry and that bit of roasted malt. rickgordon (3285), Göteborg, Sweden Jan 21, 2008 Bottled. 3 Små Rum, Göteborg.
Dark copper colour with good head retention. Rich, malty aroma with a nice blend of almond paste, alcohol, bit of toast and cocoa. Cherries are not noticed at this stage. Soft, yet lively mouthfeel with cherry stone, red berries, and bit of chocolate - the latter most prominent in the finish. Alcohol is sensed, but here it carries the flavours nicely, and contributes without being edgy or bitter. Great beer!
