Commercial Description:
Three Philosophers is a remarkable limited edition strong ale brewed by Brewery Ommegang in response to a home brewer’s description of his dream beer. Realbeer.com, the internet’s largest beer website, hosted a contest called “Create a Great Beer.” Brewery Ommegang was chosen by Realbeer.com to brew the Belgian-style ale for the winning essayist. Noel Blake, a home brewer from Portland wrote the winning description for what his “dream beer” would be like.

750 mL bottle. Pours a dark brown body with decent head. I cannot really comment that much in depth about the taste or aroma because I was not sober enough to form a good opinion. Need to try this one again when more sober.

pours a really dark ruby brown with a finger or two of light beige head. Strong odor of plum and molasses. Very light mouthfeel, starts off with a bit of a malty sweetness, which ends with a bit of a burnt toast aftertaste. A good, smooth addition to the Quad family.

Wow! My first good beer! Great flowery/peachy aroma. It looks gorgeous- very red in color and perfect for a Quad. Flavor is fantastic- I hate beers that are overpowering with hops so this is just right for me. Very fruity, malty flavor. Smooth on the palate, overall a very tasty beer!!

The Ommegang beers represent a few major holes in my ratings list, as they are top quality and readily available. I’ve had this before and it is another predictably excellent Ommegang offering.

bottle. I found this beer to taste better as it warmed. It has a bitter sweet taste and it smells great. this isn’t a beer your going to be able to drink a lot of but it’s very nice!

bottle. pours a very attractive reddish-brown color with a copper head. smells sweet and kind of like cough syrup. first sip is rather sweet and syrupy too. I think it was a bit too cold when I first poured it so i let it warm up some. after warming considerably it is much more palatable. Nice and smooth with little interference from the 9.8% alcohol content. The cherry is definitely there in the flavor but it doesn’t hit you over the head. Well made and definitely enjoyed.

Smells metallic (eric says like a nickel). The bottle is fresh, as I bought it as part of the Ommegang 10th Anniv. Gift pack. The medicinal cherry is right up front. I wish I could give ommegang a pass but this stuff sucks. Maybe the new guy can do better.
