COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Three Philosophers is a remarkable limited edition strong ale brewed by Brewery Ommegang in response to a home brewer’s description of his dream beer. Realbeer.com, the internet’s largest beer website, hosted a contest called “Create a Great Beer.” Brewery Ommegang was chosen by Realbeer.com to brew the Belgian-style ale for the winning essayist. Noel Blake, a home brewer from Portland wrote the winning description for what his “dream beer” would be like.

750 mL bottle poured into a goblet. A: Pours a purple garnet with a thick creamy off white head that does not dissipate. S: Initial smell is dark raisons, figs and cherries with yeasty bread followed by molasses and dark honey. T: Smooth, sweet maltiness. No hops, Mixture of the belgian spicyness and sour funk. Mild alcohol. Very nice. M: Moderate carbonation, smooth feel, full bodied. O: This is fruit forward and an above-average Quad. A damn fine American attempt at the style, but not a great example compared to the revered Belgian inspirations. Serving type: bottle

12 ounce bottle poured into snifter. Served at 50 degrees. Dark chestnut brown with billowy tan head. Cherries dominate the aroma. Nice malt backbone with great stone fruit flavor with just a hint of funk. Lively carbonation and medium body make this a most refreshing after dinner ale. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Appearance: Hazy, dark copper/reddish color with two fingers of off-white head that fades with a thick curtain of lace. Aroma: Thick, syrupy sweetness, with molasses. raisin, ripe fruit and roasted malt in the background. Some estery alcohol mixes in and out. Taste: Thick, creamy and sweet up front, with lots of ripe fruit and some yeastyness. The malt presence builds, with a nice toasted, nutty taste leading to the finish, where there's more cherry-syrup sweetness and a lingering caramel candy aftertaste. The Rest: De-li-cious. A bomber of this is the perfect evening companion to relax and enjoy life. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Great amber color. Ester yeast notes. Though only 2% is the cherry ale. It is certainly noticeable in the after taste. I would call this a Quad with a twist. But then again, so would Ommegang. It doesn't satisfy my quad craving for this reason, but it is a tasty beer. Especially during the Holidays when I look forward to these kinds of spice in my beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

An awesome quad with wonderful cherry hints. While this brew is a little one dimensional, the cherry and subtle earthy chicory help this brew cleanly slide on the palate. Smooth brown sugar round out a mildly effervescent mouthfeel. This delightful malty beverage works on pretty much every level. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle poured in goblet. Pours a dark hazy brown with a thick, white foam head that dissipates to a thin cap that lingers. Soapy wet lacing slides down the glass. Aroma is cherries, malt, figs. Flavor is mostly cherry up front, malts and a bubbly body. A nice long boozy finish with a warming element. Delicious but more fruity than I expected.

Bottle from Appellation Wines. Pours dark chestnut almost black with a nice creamy head. The nose is sweet with notes of banana and toffee. More banoffee pie on the taste with prunes. The palate is rich in texture probably medium to full bodied in structure with a creamy finish, which is perhaps a little sweet. Overall, good beer. I think the Belgian version would have more of a zing on the end.

Aroma is a rich, caramel/butterscottch, roasty taste, the after taste is bitter very spicy, bubbly, taste a little tobacco leaf or something leafy believe it or not! I don’t like the appearance, the murky, dirty water look. Strong ABV so it does have a good kick at 9.8%, not the best quad but solid.

Nice Quadruple ale. Carmel sweet taste. Good mouth feel. Dark brown color. Sugar on the lips.

750 ml bottle shared with czar, Albatross, and friends at blind tasting. A hazy reddish brown with a nice white head. Aroma is cherry. Flavor is cherry, raspberry, figs, red berries. Finish is some citrus, some spices, and a touch of floral hops. Light body, sticky mouthfeel, weak carbonation. More fruity than what I’d usually expect from a quadrupel, but I gotta say it was pretty good!
