COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Three Philosophers is a remarkable limited edition strong ale brewed by Brewery Ommegang in response to a home brewer’s description of his dream beer. Realbeer.com, the internet’s largest beer website, hosted a contest called “Create a Great Beer.” Brewery Ommegang was chosen by Realbeer.com to brew the Belgian-style ale for the winning essayist. Noel Blake, a home brewer from Portland wrote the winning description for what his “dream beer” would be like.

A hazy brown beer with a light brown head. The aroma is sweet with notes of nuts, prunes, alcohol, and wood. The flavor is dry woody with notes of prunes and plums before a very hoppy and malt dry end sets in. A wonderful flavor.

Flavour is alcohol, cherries, wood, some yeast and raisins. Also some bready notes. A quite pleasant brew, where the alcohol burns nicely in the aftertaste.

Hazy reddish brown beer with a pinkish - biscuit coloured head. Dry and somewhat bland ale. A hint of cherry and some slight brandy from the alcohol. A bit one dimensional but drinkable.

Vintage 2005, corked bottle
Dark color; huge and compact head. Malt aroma, with light noble vanilla notes and very light spices. A light hop note. Subtle.
Round taste, correct soft malt, a lot of caramel (getting more bitter at the end), warming. At the end there is also a presence of roasted malt, roasted nuts and liquorice.
A very good example of Strong Belgian Ale, malty enough, with some interesting hints, and every element is well blended together.
