Strong malty aroma, leather, brandy and cherries. Thick body. Wood and leather flavor, fermented cherries, and a little nutty. Slightly dry and bitter aftertaste that helps balance all of the malt. I cant wait to drink this. Tastes like alcoholic fruit roll ups. Bitter and dangerous finish. Cherries dominate the finish. Almost a sour bitter cherry finish with a hint of birchwood. This beer gave me a premature
hangover. Don’t try to drink this if you already have a buzz. Danger... jwweaver77 (5), Clayton, North Carolina, USA does not count | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 30, 2009 750ml bottle poured into a plain ol’ clear glass beer stein (sorry, I don’t own any fancy glassware). Dark brown pour with some red tint and a nice beige head. Complex fruity taste, can really pick up the cherry taste. Thick, creamy mouthfeel. Very smooth. I consider this my "stand by" Quad, not the most amazing I’ve ever had but affordable and easy to find. MishkinBeer (65), , New York, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Dec 12, 2008 The beer has a cloudy, deep red appearance in the glass. The head is off-white with a dab of mauve and foamy. Full bodied with a defined cherry flavor, Three Philosophers buzzes in your mouth initially and then dissipates into a sweet round finish. The sweetness does not overwhelm however. This ale is truly a delight. Strong fruit aroma which was mostly cherry. Dark color of brownish orange. Beautiful tan colored head. Light glass cling. Slight fizz, great bitter character, and a dry finish. I mistakenly called it a Belgian ale before seeing it was made in Cooperstown, surprising. Delicious. A new favorite. mike67 (95), , New Jersey, USA

Nose is very fruity, sweet malt and alcohol. Full body with sweet malt, brown sugar, yeast and cherry flavor in the beginning with floral hops pleasantly kick in the finish. Wonderful beer. slitcher (105), Freeport, Illinois, USA

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 14, 2009 A dark almost plum colored body. Aroma is rather sweet, strongly resembling dark fruits such as prunes and dates, with notes of cherry. In the background are some toasty notes. Body is nice and thick with qucikly fading carbonation. Flavor is rather toasty with a noticeable liquorish character. The mouth feel is nice and full with a finish that tapers off slowly, leaving the slightly stick flavor behind. A great beer from Ommmegang.
