Commercial Description:
Three Philosophers is a remarkable limited edition strong ale brewed by Brewery Ommegang in response to a home brewer’s description of his dream beer. Realbeer.com, the internet’s largest beer website, hosted a contest called “Create a Great Beer.” Brewery Ommegang was chosen by Realbeer.com to brew the Belgian-style ale for the winning essayist. Noel Blake, a home brewer from Portland wrote the winning description for what his “dream beer” would be like.

Pours deep red with a very nice head and great retention. Very nice caramel aroma with a hint of cherries in there as well. Very strong, but very satisfying too. It may be a little much for the regular American Light beer drinker, but for people with more robust tastes, this is a knockout.

Bottle from Keg Liquors in Clarksville, shared with Brothers Eric and Nathan. Pours deep brownish red with minimal beige head. Nose is mild belgian notes and slight faint cherry. Flavor is smack in the face hot with surprisingly smooth belgian taste and sweet/sour cherry finish. I’m gonna go ahead and throw it out there that I pourously mishandled this beer due to frozen tundra weather the past week...all that aside I think it is decent even in this tasting and definitely has potential. I feel obligated to revisit.

Bought this for New Years night. A lot of thick, pillowy head, otherwise average in appearance. I’d need another bottle to truly describe it’s aroma and taste, but the feeling in one’s mouth is incredible. Really made me hungry for a slice of homemade bread with butter.

Pours out a deep reddish brown, with a tannish head that lingers and leaves a bit of lacing. The smell is of cherries, malt and a bit of alcohol. Tastes a bit of tart cherries and chocolate with a tad of malt in it.

Vintage 200i8. Clear mahogany with a medium beige head. Sweet aroma with roasted malt, caramel and chocolate. Flavour like wise. Finished sweet. Slightly oxydized.

Bottle from SL... Pours a murkey red/brown color, nice head. Nice aroma of some dark fruits, light tartness. Taste is borderline tart/sour. Grapes, cherries dark fruits, yeasty and a little bready... Not bad the tartness is throwing a curve ball. Texture is highly carbonated and pretty easy to drink. Overall not bad just not like most quads I have tried.

Bottle. Pours a dark amber color with a large, frothy white head. Lacing is very strong. Aromas of cherry, malts, citrus, and dough. Mouthfeel is somewhat soft for such a large head, and it has a nice creamy finish. Taste consists of cherries, roasted malts, and banana at the end. A very good beer, but I think it falls short of my "dream beer."

Pours brownish red and is hazy with a medium sized off-white head. Aroma- caramel, plum, roast malt, nut, ripe fruit. Taste is fruit sweet with a roasty finish.
