3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 GG (1980) - NorCal, California, USA - MAY 28, 2009
It’s amazing how easy a well crafted wit can go down on a freakin’ hot California afternoon. The 750ml bottle stood no chance, and every drop was consumed in short order. It might be one of the most sessionable wit’s I’ve consumed, but for the most part wit’s go down easier than a stripper in Vegas.
The beer pours out a hazy light golden/lemonade yellow with a strong 3" egg-whipped head. Strong notes of coriander, orange zest, bananas and yeast all come on strong. Yet, I got the strange sense of smelling some kind of fruit cocktail with the sweetness I was getting. As soon as the flavor hit my tongue, I knew this was going to be a good afternoon. Pepper, apple juice, passion fruit, herbs, and yeast really round out these flavors. All very distinct, all easy to enjoy. Kudos to Ommegang for making a really nice summer beer.

Thanks Jason. The beer pours to a heavily hazy pale yellow body that looks glassy or plasticized. The aroma is heavily coriander seed and lots of mandarin orange peel. The flavor is also heavy on the coriander with a sweet orange peel. The palate is heavily carbonated and has a lemony taste on the finish.

750mL bottle. Poured hazy lighter golden with a short cap of white head.. some light sediment in there. The aroma picked up bright wheat and coriander over some pale malts.. brought in a touch of grass on the back. The flavor had wheat and pale malts at the core with earth, orage zest, and spicy, peppery yeast around.. dry coriander and more pepper rode through the finish.. well-balanced. Light-medium bodied on the palate with a nice tangy and refreshing impression.. really dried out on the finish. Solid stuff.

750 ml. bottle. Pours a thin head over a pale yellow, (SRM 5) clear body......nose of light Belgian funk, mildly yeasty, bready and minimal spice.....taste is coriander, slight citrus, bit of apple, wheat....mouth feel medium light, carbonation light. Light refreshing after a hot mid western hike.

Yellow golden pour, big white head, active carbonation. Aroma of spices and wheat. Flavor is very crisp and refreshing. usual wit-iness to it, some spice, some bubble gum, etc. Pretty nice, flavorful alternative to the typical crappy summertime mass produced wheat beer.

This is crisp and refreshing - with that belgian characteristic I’ve really come to enjoy. Seems aggressively carbonated for what I think of as a wheat beer, but that helps the lightness. I get the tart lemon on the taste and it’s nice.

Pours a hazy yellow, with white head. citrus, lemon peel, banana, coriander, and wheat. Pretty basic and uninteresting. Mediocre at best.

Pours a very pale straw yellow with a dense thick white head.
Smells of Belgian yeast and lemon zest.
Tastes as it smells. Very crisp, highly carbonated, and lots of lemony goodness.
This witbier lacks creativity, but is strong in the basic flavors and is as solid as a witbier can be.
Mouthfeel is thin and bubbly.
