On tap poured into a shaker. Traditional banana and spice notes hit the nose followed by a sweet candy and orange note. It pours a hazy yellow with a light effervescence. The white, creamy head reduces to a light ring with a dusty surface and a small bubbled, runny lace. The taste is a medium high sweet and medium bitter. The medium-light bodied beer has a oily texture and a soft carbonation. The finish is primarily lemon and spice with a bit of banana. The aftertaste is bready and mostly clean

I got excited when I saw Ommegang made a Witbier, so this was a real disappointment. Watery, flavorless, and so much carbonation it burns the mouth. They make so many great beers at Ommegang, but this is not one of them.

Cloudy and gold colored. Lots of head and carbonation. Light smell with hints of apple and citrus. Sweet and floral taste, light on the palate, no bitterness, and a hint of citrus. Good lacing.

Ommegang Witte is a beer that isn’t unlike many women of easy virtue. Knockout looks, soft in all the right places, and tantalizing perfume, but the personality is a little underplayed. Phenomenally heady and a gorgeous shade of yellow, this white ale has amazing looks and an aroma to match with big, sweet grain notes and little bit of orange. Mouthfeel is creamy but lively and the taste features some juicy lemon character. Problem is, the first part of the flavor is muted. The great finish doesn’t entirely make up for the faint beginning. Still, Witte is highly refreshing and extremely sexy. I just wish the flavors had been more full and complex.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
A- Soft, lemon, coriander.
A- Yellow color, cloudy liquid, white head.
T- Coriander, lemon, subtle orange, wheat.
P- Light body, soft texture, average carbonation, spiced finish.
O- A good Wit, but awfully soft on the aroma and palate. As it warms, more of the spices come through and creates a more complex feel, but still seemed quite subtle on all notes. A good beer all in all though.

Much more complex than your average wheat beer, which is to be expected of Ommegang. A somewhat sweet, citrus wheat beer with unfiltered character.
