Deep brown pour, trending black. Nose is soft chocolate roast malt, dark fruit, yeast esters/spice, and a faint trail of soy. Flavor is smooth bitter chocolate roast malt with plum/raisin, sweet toasted biscuit, and yeast spice. Ample carbonation. Lightly dry, yet moderately sweet. Big with good alcohol cover. Nice.

UPDATED: OCT 7, 2013 Presentation: It was served on tap at Brewery Ommegang during there Waffles and Puppets celebration. Appearance: It has a dark murky brown body with deep red highlights. This is topped with a one inch thick, light tan head. The head is creamy and hangs on well, slowly fading as i sip. A light swirl of the glass reinforces the head so that every sip starts with a little bit of that rich frothy goodness. Smell: The aroma brings a pleasant and complex blend of yeast and malt notes to the nose. Taste/Feel: There is a tasty blend of dark ripe fruit, toffee, yeast, and bready malt with mellow/warm alcohol. Hop flavor is very subdued and adds only a very slight spice note. This all comes by way of a soft medium to full body with soft yet very active carbonation. Notes: For me Brewery Ommegang has hit another home run with this Dark Belgian Ale!!!

The color of this beer is a very, very dark reddish brown color with a large yet fleeting tan head, and the aroma mixes the scents of figs, caramel malts, booze, roasted malts, and sour fruit. The taste of this beer is really large and immediately appealing to the tongue with the mildly sourness, slight sweetness, and touch of umami; furthermore, the mouthfeel fuses a lot of bold sensations due to the boozy finish, average carbonation, medium body, and oily texture.

Bottle. Pours a relatively dark brown color with a smallish tan head on it. Nose is slightly sweet, and has a mixture of dark fruits coming off it - I get figs and just a hint of brown sugar. Taste is a little sweet with a bit of raisin coming through. Feels a little heavy of a drink to me. Definitely better shared.

Bottle from Wegmans Leesburg. Pours black with a thin khaki head. Doesn’t leave much lacing. Lots of caramel and dark fruit on the nose. Definitely warms on the tongue. Very smooth and well balance with just a small burst of alcohol on the finish. solid.

Bottle split with DiarmaidBHK - pours cola with a white head. Aroma is dark fruits, plums, chocolate, and vanilla oakiness. Taste is sweet with a boozy bite, like a real smooth bourbon. Very nice!

750 ml bottle. Pours dark, almost black fairly thick with a thin wispy khaki colored head. Aroma is complex, dark chocolate, caramel, plum and dark fruits. Hard to identify all of it. Taste is of chocolate, plums, citrus, light hops and tartness in the finish. Sweetness of the malt lingers in a good way on tip of the tongue. Mouth feel is kind of bubbly for the malt intensity, but is true to the style. I shared this with my wife and enjoyed it, Not the best thing I’ve had from Ommegang, but not bad either.
