DocJitsu (836) - Florida, USA - APR 12, 2013
Pours a dark brown, nearly opaque with a greenish caramel colored head. Brown sugar and date on the nose. Mouthfeel is decent, but not phenomenal. A little too much sting, despite allowing it to settle. Brown sugar up front with a little sweet date emerging. Very nice.

750mL bottle. Poured very deep garnet with a creamy, well-retained beige head. The aroma picked up warm dark fruits, nutty notes, and deep banana with accents of oak, tannins, and spicy yeast.. rich and welcoming. The flavor found bready notes, molasses, and caramel at the core with tangy fruit skins, black pepper, banana, and cloves around.. good balance between chewy malts and big Belgian yeast character.. finished with more spicy yeast over chewy bready notes. Medium-bodied with rolling carbonation on the palate.. spicy, well-balanced, and engaging.. loved it!

This midnight black brew has hints of figs, plums, with possibly a note of dates. Has a foamy head that dissipates fairly fast. Brown sugar is tasted from start to finish. While already one of the best beers Ommegang has put out, with age, this could become even more complex and enchanting.

Pours very dark brown with a tan head. The aroma has lots of figs, dates, anise, trappist yeastiness, brown sugar, dark toffee, raw dough and warm integrated alcohol. It has a medium / thick body with frothy carbonation. The flavor starts with dark maltiness (not bitter), fruit juice sweetness, berries, caramel and earthy Belgian yeast. The finish shows some alcohol, more yeastiness, lots of berries and earthiness. This was was decent.
