4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a very dark reddish brown with a small, thin, but well retained head.
The aroma is plum and fig with some Cavendish tobacco, some caramel and some brown sugar. Impossibly rich and inviting, pungent but nothing that smacks you across the face, nuanced, at times subtle, but very rich smelling.
The flavor is fruity with both pear and darker fruit notes of raisin, fig, cherry, etc. The beer has a very noticeable presence of spicy alcohol notes, but it’s never over boozy or unpleasant. Some robust rye bread and light roastiness provide a some balance.
This is a very enjoyable beer.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle shared at Ottawa 2015 end-of-year bash. Hazy mahogany with a dark tan head. Plums and raisins, candied Belgian sugars, some light yeast properties, terry’s dark chocolate orange, moderate+ carbonation and moderate body, somewhat sweet and boozy, enjoyable.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle: Poured a clear brown color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some great lacing. Aroma of candi sugar, dry fruits with candy ester is quite sublime. Taste I also a great mix of candi sugar with some dry fruits notes with some candy-like ester and a slight peppery finish. Body is about average for style with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Great beer and probably something Ommegang can pull out in their sleep.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a dark chestnut brown color with plum hues and a one finger beige head that has great retention, only slowly settling into a lasting cap/ring. Splotchy lacing left behind.
Slightly smokey, chalky aroma with dark malt sweetness and estery Belgian yeast notes. Hints of plum, raisin and fig along with subtle oak, caramel and roasted chooclate malt.
Medium bodied with a dry, slightly chalky texture and a nice balance of peppery spice, sweet and roasted malt and estery dark fruit notes. Subtle roast with chocolate, caramel and toffee flavor along with faint peppery spice. Lots of dark fruit sweetness on the back end with vinous grape, cherry, currant raisin and plum. Nicely balanced with a slightly dry finish. Complex and flavorful with a well masked ABV making it very easy to drink. Another nice beer from Ommegang.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Location: 750ml bottle procured at Buy Rite a couple years back, 10/23/15
Aroma: The nose is a bit boozy considering the age, dark fruit, chocolate, and Belgian yeast
Appearance: Pours a brownish color with a slight amber hue, murky, beige head, light lacing
Flavor: It tastes medium sweet, similar to the nose, with the dark fruit, chocolate, and booze
Palate: Medium-plus body, fairly lively on the carbonation front, a bit of stickiness and a little heat
Since the bottle claims it would cellar well, I gave it some time, but my cellar is getting low, so it was finally time to pull this one out. Opens up nicely around the desired temperature, do not serve this one too cold or the flavors will be too muted. Overall, there’s a lot to like here, but it doesn’t quite live up to the best Belgian examples that is is attempting to replicate.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Very Happy with this bottle. When cold, the carbonation is strong and balances out the smooth sweetness. Complex aroma and flavors. When warm, you can really enjoy the palate and warm booze. Goes head to head with Trappist dark ales.

Sat on a bottle for a few years. Heavy hitter with lots of molasses and burnt sugar and bread and tobacco. Age did it well and it shows its abv but not in a bad way.
