From bottle at The Festival. Dark black pour with brown head. Aroma is very chocolate forward, sweet chocolate maltiness, very light roasty notes. Chewy palate, thick and satisfying. Pretty typical huge IS, well made.

Big brown head. Pretty. Smells of oats, maple, soy sauce, cinnamon. Tastes smokey, tart, woody, and acrid with warming alcohol on the end. Smells better than it tastes.

Tap @Ratebeer event. Pours pitch black, medium dark brown head, good lacing. Aroma is dark roasted malts, coffee, touch of maple perhaps, cigarettes, and baking cocoa. Flavor is the same, medium sweet, medium bitter, light astringence. Significant warming on the finish. Good, not great.

On tap at the RateBeer Gallery event in SF. Pours black with a light brown head. Strong dark chocolate and black coffee aroma. Molasses, tar and dark chocolate dominate the flavor with brief wisps of red fruits. Pretty damn strong and monumental. Good but it does brutalize the palate a bit.

On tap at Ratebeer Gallery event. Pours near black with a disappearing light brown head and a chocolate and treacle aroma. There is a hearty dark molasses flavor with a dry coffee finish and a warm alcohol trail. Complex and intense.

Sample at the Ale Wine & Spirits beer tasting on 06/14/2013: This beer pours a viscous black color with a medium thick beige head that diminishes slowly. Patchy lacing on the glass. The aroma consists of roast malt, coffee and hops. Full-bodied with flavors of smoked malt, roasted coffee and hops. The finish is roasty with burnt malt aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

Draft. Pours opaque almost black. Tastes very rich, smokey, sweet, and like bitter coffee. Medium body and carbonation. Smells like smokey raisins.

Tap. Pours opaque black with creamy, tan head. Aroma is roast and chocolate malts, earthy notes, dark fruit, ash, and faint oak and vanilla. Flavor is dry, roasted malts forward with some earthy hop bitterness, dark fruit esters, woody notes, and faint espresso; dry, roast finish. Medium body and low carbonation.

22. Mmm-hm. Pours jet black with a dense and creamy burnt tan head and lots and lots of lace. Big roasty sweet dark chocolate nose with anise showing. Creamy thick body, a little sticky in spots. Dark chocolate, black liquorice, roast, campfire, and sweet malt on the mid palate. Thick and almost chalky. Long dry ashy roasty finish. Big beast that knows how to please. The big flabby ones always try harder.
