Tap. Pours opaque black with creamy, tan head. Aroma is roast and chocolate malts, earthy notes, dark fruit, ash, and faint oak and vanilla. Flavor is dry, roasted malts forward with some earthy hop bitterness, dark fruit esters, woody notes, and faint espresso; dry, roast finish. Medium body and low carbonation.

22. Mmm-hm. Pours jet black with a dense and creamy burnt tan head and lots and lots of lace. Big roasty sweet dark chocolate nose with anise showing. Creamy thick body, a little sticky in spots. Dark chocolate, black liquorice, roast, campfire, and sweet malt on the mid palate. Thick and almost chalky. Long dry ashy roasty finish. Big beast that knows how to please. The big flabby ones always try harder.

Draft at blue monk. Deep black pour, big thick mouthfeel. Huge roast in both aroma and flavor. Dark chocolate , not as boozy as you would expect. Huge mouthfeel. It’s like a meal of roasted malts and chocolate. Not gathering too much maple but a very nice stout

Pours a thick black with a big khaki head that sticks around for an appropriate period of time. Poured from a draft into a pedastal goblet, this is really a strikingly attractive beer. On the nose, the beer is strange, with notes of green vegetal wood, earth, coffee, root beer, and roasted malt. On the palate, the beer is smooth, but there is a sweetness followed by a bitter coffee cleanup. Really clean and well put together but a nice long lasting finish.

Sampled at esbls. So black with a small tan ring. A smoky nose. A smoky flavor withroasted notes, tobacco, too. So much roastiness. Only a little grape jelly. A pretty good beer and a bold one.

Bottle@DeMolen. In both aroma and flavour wonderful roasted malts flavour. Powerful and complex, even soysauce-like. A little burnt in the finish.

Bottle. Almost black and opague. Malty sweet, slightly salty aroma with licorice and roast. Syrupy mouthfeel. Full bodied, almost thick. Malty sweet, salty flavor with licorice. Roasty, almost rubbery aftertaste.

Bottled. Pitch black color, fluorescent brown head. Nose of massive dark malts, coffee, molasses. Quite sweet taste, umami, bitter. Massive is the key word.

UPDATED: JUN 2, 2013 Bottle @ tasting. Aroma is huge roasty malt, molasses, slight smoke and more. Flavour is a bit alcoholic and bitter very roasty malt, liquorice molasses, seems a bit burned. Too much.
