Tired of talking my friends into pit stops at beer bars before heading “out” - in fear of having to drink bland lager all night - I set out to craft an ale that would act as companion throughout the evening. Fit for beer geeks and party freaks alike, Leon is assertively hopped and fermented dry using champagne yeast. The yeast and the hops in combination with a simple malt bill provides the beer with a quality of being rich in taste yet refreshing.

Pours a hazy bright amber with a huge foamy white head that retains fairly well and leaves decent sudsy lacing. The nose is citrusy and musty with an underlying grassiness. Musty and grassy flavors really come through in the taste with a mildly astringent herbal bitter and faint citrus character. Finishes semi dry with no sweetness and a bitter that lingers bit until carbonation scrubs it away. Mouthfeel is crisp but smooth with a medium body and high carbonation. A fairly easy drinking beer but lacks the spiciness and touch of funk that I prefer in the style, but it is refreshing and well balanced.

---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Had this puppy on tap at the Delirium Hoppy Loft alongside my friend sebletitje. This Leon poured with a gold to pale gold body supporting a creamy near white head of foam. The aroma offers up cantaloupe flavored cotton candy, mango and thin slices of sour lime. The taste is both rich and crisp as well as being invitingly sessionable with a mix of mango and refreshing sour lime like citrus hoppiness followed by smooth sweet cantaloupe. These notes go so well together and are really hitting the spot right now. Since Seb and I had been sharing with the staff they offered us one on the house as our last one. I happily selected this one and it tasted as crisp and clean and rich as the first one. Thanks guys!!
