Tired of talking my friends into pit stops at beer bars before heading “out” - in fear of having to drink bland lager all night - I set out to craft an ale that would act as companion throughout the evening. Leon is assertively hopped and fermented dry using champagne yeast. The yeast and the hops in combination with a simple malt bill provides the beer with a quality of being rich in taste yet refreshing.

Bottled. Cloudy golden colour with rich creamy head. Aroma from citrusy, herbal hops and a gentle character of Belgian yeast. Flavour is white bread, and citrus, flowers and herbs from hops. Medium bodied with low bitterness. The flavour is rich but balanced, and longlasting. Great beer!

Bottle. Head is initially large, frothy, rocky, white, fully lasting. Body is hazy dark yellow, bottle conditioned. Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain), lightly to moderately hoppy (flowers, herbs), lightly yeasty (cobwebs, basement), with notes of Juicy Fruit gum, pepper, pineapple, hint of rhubarb. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. Dunno how Omnipollo are getting clean beers from the De Proef factory, but both this and Mazarin are pretty good. This has the same downfall that Mazarin does, that it’s too thin and watery. But the nose and balance are both pleasant. Looks fantastic too.

FROM NOTES: August 8, ’12 Poured on draft at The Trappist into a Trappist tulip. A: A distinct yeasty-phenolic Belgian note and some citric notes with faint hints of minerals, hay and sweet bread. A: Poured golden yellow with two finger white head that subsided to a minimal amount very slowly. Maintained excellent lacing throughout the glass. T: Strong, copious citrus (grapefruit) flavors, a bit of yeast, more hop flavor than the nose suggests, and a hint of malt in the finish. P: Medium to full bodied while carbonation is smooth and medium strong. O: An interpretation of a BPA with an American hoppy twist, this is a unique and extremely refreshing dry beer, my favorite from Omnipollo.

Bottle from Craft Beer Co Islington. Very pleasant indeed and a lovely end to a day of big hitters! Was expecting it to be too sweet but very well balanced between citrus, malt and champagne yeast presence. Good rounded and bitter finish. Very good. Could drink this all day.

An interesting beer to say the least. The champagne yeast used is present in both the aroma and the overall taste. Interesting flavor, with just enough hop bitterness. 4-5 (If not more) finger head, that have a more airy feel and look than other ales. Refreshing carbonation.

Luktar citrus. Mycket skum. Sträv i munnen. God.
