COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Tired of talking my friends into pit stops at beer bars before heading “out” - in fear of having to drink bland lager all night - I set out to craft an ale that would act as companion throughout the evening. Fit for beer geeks and party freaks alike, Leon is whole-cone hopped and fermented dry using champagne yeast. The yeast and the hops (Amarillo & Simcoe) in combination with a simple malt bill provides the beer with a quality of being rich in taste yet refreshing. Drink it chilled out of a wine glass or just straight out of the bottle.

Had this puppy on tap at the Delirium Hoppy Loft alongside my friend sebletitje. This Leon poured with a gold to pale gold body supporting a creamy near white head of foam. The aroma offers up cantaloupe flavored cotton candy, mango and thin slices of sour lime. The taste is both rich and crisp as well as being invitingly sessionable with a mix of mango and refreshing sour lime like citrus hoppiness followed by smooth sweet cantaloupe. These notes go so well together and are really hitting the spot right now. Since Seb and I had been sharing with the staff they offered us one on the house as our last one. I happily selected this one and it tasted as crisp and clean and rich as the first one. Thanks guys!!

Pour is a hazy yellow with a large white head. Aroma is fruity, hoppy and Belgian yeasty esters. Flavor is all about those fruit Belgain yeasty esters. Some spice hops show up but they really went all in with the Belgain yeast showing up. Reminds me of Stone Cali-Belgique.

Bottle. A hazy medium to dark yellow beer, with a huge, frothy/fizzy, lightly lacing, mostly diminishing, white head. The aroma is lightly malty (biscuits), moderately hoppy (flowers, herbs, grapefruit), lightly to moderately yeasty (cobwebs), with notes of pineapple, orange/tangerine and lychee, with spicy hints of pepper. The flavor is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Medium body, watery/velvety texture. lively carbonation, dry, long finish with moderate bitterness. Fresh enough to be fully enjoyable, balanced and a bit rustic and spicy. Underrated.

33cl bottle from The Bottle Shop, Canterbury. Orange gold colour with a slight haze and a thick near white head. Some Belgian estery aroma, then some very decent light citrus flavours. Lots of passionfruit which is rather lovely. Yep lots of passionfruit. Not always sure about that estery Belgian yeast with citrus hops but this one works quite well.

I didn’t expect to drink a Swedish beer on tap in Belgium... but the whole made at Proef thing explains it. Hoppy Loft, of course. Sweaty sweet tropical fruit aroma. Fresh taste, messy, tangy notes blend in with the tropical fruit, no bitterness? Slightly creamy... Didn’t enjoy it much I must admit.

Bottle. Golden with a medium head which took time to dissipate.. Hoppy and floral with a pleasant hoppy finish. Very easy to drink. Definitely a good one.
