COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Tired of talking my friends into pit stops at beer bars before heading “out” - in fear of having to drink bland lager all night - I set out to craft an ale that would act as companion throughout the evening. Leon is assertively hopped and fermented dry using champagne yeast. The yeast and the hops in combination with a simple malt bill provides the beer with a quality of being rich in taste yet refreshing.

Bottle at home. Aroma is pale malt, zesty citrus, lemon, spicy yeast, strong hoppy notes. Flavour is moderate to medium bitter. Body is medium, has a fairly dry finish. Nicely hoppy and fruity Belgian style ale.

330ml bottle bought at HK Brewcraft in Central.

Looks: Clear golden colour with a thin trace of dirt-like yeast sediments; Explosive two and a half finger head and long lasting crumpety white foam; Beautiful sticky lacing with quite fizzy carbonation.

Aroma: Very fragrant malt, with citrus essence, pitted prunes, dry white wine, candied fruits, grapes, berries, light perfume, sugar, light spices and strong Bel yeast.

Taste: Mid to light sweet malt, with fair caramel, light red fruits, floral, molasses, spices, strong wine yeast, moderate lemon, moderate bitter hops and grass.

Body: Medium body. Smooth and slick palate.

Mouth Feel: Good Ale maltyness in fairly sturdy and creamy background with better red fruits and some caramel. Strong European hops dominates with floral, fair lemon and notable grassy bitterness. Moderate sweetness, good dry winey feel and yeast. Simple but crisp and nice!

Hoppiness: Citrus and light spices in nose. Floral, spices, fair lemon and grass in taste. Bitterness is moderate for a lasting, close to mid astringent bitter sweet finish.

After Taste: Fairly dry. Spicy, winey and fairly bitter to mouth.

Comments: A simple but effective Belgian Pale Ale, with champagne yeast contributes greatly in beautiful heads, nice assorted fruity aroma and some dryish winey taste, plus good malt, just right sweetness and strong lemony hops made it as if this is a hoppy champagne beer. A resounding ‘Yes’!

750 ml cork & cage bottle. First glass has a clear light amber color with frothy, off-white head. Aroma has sweet malts with a caramel touch and some floral and slightly spicy belgian yeast. Taste starts balanced with some yeast notes like grass and hay, not funky at all, just clean farmhouse notes. Finishes hoppy and quite bitter. Aftertaste is hoppy and dry. Body is quite smooth with soft carbonation. I didn’t expect that when I saw the huge head it formed. Really nice example of a belgian yeast and american hops combination.

Bottle. Hazy yellow beer, smallish white head. Nose is hops and toasty malt, fruit notes. Hoppy and grassy flavor, perfume, some citrus, mildly toasty malt. Somewhat acidic hops in the finish, malt notes. Dry and spritzy mouthfeel. Refreshing.

W nosie aromaty fenolowe, drożdżowe, dalej kwiaty, miód i przyprawy. Barwa złota, opalizujące, piana średniej wysokości, bardzo drobna. W smaku przeważa strona belgijska czyli jest owocowo jakby brzoskwinia, pieprzenie i drożdżowo. Goryczka dość wyraźna jak na styl belgijski. Średnie wysycenie. Kran w Jabeer

Bottle, pours straw coloured, with zesty and slightly sour funk. tastes of citrus fruits, apricot, lemonpeel, sherbert and spicy bitter hops. light body, dry fizz, dry peppery aftertaste. you can taste the champagne yeast. bit more citrus fruit to even out the yeasty spice would have been good, but its tidy for sure

A hazy orange body with a large, fluffy head that quickly settles while leaving lacing on the glass. Nose has spicy yeast notes, hay, citrus fruits and some farmhouse aromas. Tasre is quite dry with a hefty bitterness that lingers on the palate. Lively carbonation and light palate. Decent brew with nice yeast notes but a bit dry, which makes the bitterness too pronounced.

Bottle sample at DSG’s 10K tasting at the Dancing Camel. Thanks TomL. Clear dark gold with a white head. Fruity aroma of pear and a little soapy too. Bitter and mild taste that’s somewhat floral, light body, soft fizz and a little juicy finish.
