Mazarin is my take on a “thinker’s beer”. Rather than being big and undecipherably complex I wanted to create something that would calm a hop yearning nerve without fuddling the brain too much. In other words, a lavishly hopped ale of judicious ABV — an Extra Special Pale Ale if you will.
In fact, so extra special that it snatched a gold medal at the Stockholm Beer & Whisky Festival 2013.

(330ml bottle @ VilleValla Pub, Linköping, Mar 14 2015) Pours totally clouded dark gold with a moderate lingering white head and lace. Aroma of mango skin, mandarin, tart citrus juice, wet vegetation, light caramel sweetness. Flavour of white grapefruit, mandarin flesh, kind of tart, thin and citric. Softly bitter and softly sweet pale malt with a little biscuit and grain. Lightish but kind of creamy body with soft carb. Easy to drink but maybe not the freshest because the flavours don’t really pop. Still would try on tap if it shows up fresh at Omnipollos Hatt and reevaluate.

Bottle. Super hazy golden pour with frothy white head. Tropical and citrus fruit hop aromas take over. Citrus and a light sweet malty tone, assuming oatmeal, different but fresh and enjoyable.

28.5.2014. Very fruity aroma, possible passionfruit. Taste is also fruity, a bit bitter and grapefruit. Good but not really an apa(?).

Translucent orange brown. Mid sized head with good retention. Unique aroma containing notes of malt, caramel, tart apple, hops, and cider. This is an extra special pale ale indeed. Mid bodied and quite smooth. Initial taste is a delectably smooth combination of caramel, malt, honey and oatmeal. Finish is slightly tart and hoppy with notes of apple, citrus, and various other dried fruits. Splendid.

From tap at the Local Pub, Athens. /hazy yellow golden aroma with small white off white head. Hoppy citrusy aroma, range fruity, floral, malty, oat. Sweet and bitter taste exactly like the aroma. Medium oily body with soft carbonation.

Cloudy straw-orange with fluffy bubbly white head and heavy lacing. Smells of resinous hop, tangerine, peach, sorbet, pith, some butterscotch and lightly spiced malt. Tastes bitter, dry, light spice and lemon. Body is creamy, fine, fizzy dry finish. Aroma and palate manage to be both crisp and creamy. A subtle but complex and very pleasant beer.

Bottle from Bottle Shop at home (great bottle - Omnipollo have great designs). Pour is hazy translucent gold some thin fuzzy, Belgian-like head. Aroma is apple juice hoppy with some tropical fruitiness, creamy marshmallow biscuit too. Taste is crisp and bitter, pronounced but not that hoppy. Interestingly rounded by the smoothness of creamy biscuity malt (and oatmeal?). Very fine. Crisp, bitter, but also a bit creamy and smooth. An interesting pale ale, very drinkable but lots going on. Would definitely get again but for ~HK$50/bottle it's not a great deal.
