Mazarin is my take on a “thinker’s beer”. Rather than being big and undecipherably complex I wanted to create something that would calm a hop yearning nerve without fuddling the brain too much. In other words, a lavishly hopped ale of judicious ABV — an Extra Special Pale Ale if you will.
In fact, so extra special that it snatched a gold medal at the Stockholm Beer & Whisky Festival 2013.

330 ml bottle into pint glass, best before 1/7/2017. Pours very hazy golden orange color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense off white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, melon, passion fruit, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, light honey, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of bright citrus/tropical hops and moderate pale malt notes; with good strength. Taste of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, melon, passion fruit, lemon zest, orange peel, pine, light honey, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Good amount of pine/grassy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, melon, passion fruit, lemon/orange peel, pine, light honey, bread, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance and bright citrus/tropical/piney hops and moderate pale malt flavors; with a great crisp malt/bitterness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, crisp, moderately sticky, and slightly bready mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent American pale ale. All around great robustness, complexity, and balance of bright citrus/tropical/piney hops and moderate pale malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

Bottle in the Trembling Madness, York. Cloudy yellow with a thin white head. A little murky. Really fruity aroma. The flavour is lots of grapefruit. Lovely and bitter and refreshing. Just a touch of soap in the finish. Very good.

Bottle from Whole Foods PM. Pours great turbid orange, looking like extra pulpy orange juice, and 1-finger white head that laces well. Nose is huge and very intense, a medley of mango, tangerine, melon, malt. Tastes citric, dry, floral, with tangerine, pineapple, mango, honeydew. Finishes dry, hoppy, citric, and delicious. This beer is fucking incredible, and you can quote me on that. Like a cross between Flower Power and Hill Farm Society and Solitude #4.

12oz bottle pours super cloudy pale faded orange with 2 finger head. Nose has tons of juicy tropical fruit, mango, stonefruit, citrus. Taste is dry with very subtle dry malt presence, hops up front with medium high bitterness, tropical fruits for days, peach, stonefruit, grassy pineapple. Finishes bitter and dry and carries the fruitiness of the palate to a lingering finish. Really enjoyed it.

Apr 2015 - Keg at Draft House. Cloudy vibrant orange, opaque, seemingly still, small white head, full lacing. Aroma is earthy spice, wet card, white onion, a touch sour. Body is medium to light, spritzy, rounded, slightly foamy. Taste is earthy, drinking oats, soft tangerine, straw, flowery dry hops, watered down fruits. The oats bring a dry savoury vibe to the citrussy proceedings. Quite nice.

The pour started clear golden until the bottom yeast came out and it turned a bit cloudy. And even when poured gently, there produced a generous rocky white head. The nose presents a bit grassy and earthy, like a European interpretation on an American Pale ale, with a slight touch of lemon rind and earthy hop oils on a biscuity body. Clean yet tantilising flavor with lemon peel and earthy leafy hoppiness, with some bitterness and earthy noble hops on the taste, with an underlying biscuity sweet pale malt base. Through and through this tastes like a Euro-version of a APA, and that ain’t no bad thing because this is tasty with a certain old world charm.

Moderate, malty and lightly sweetish aroma, light caramel and some tropical/floral fruitiness, citrus - some piney hoppyness, Body is medium, malty and dryish flavor, faint caramel and some tropical fruitiness, some citrus - hoppyness. Finish is average, malty and dryish, faint caramel and light tropical fruitiness, some citrus - light piney hoppyness. Dryish APA with nice fruitiness and citrus bitterness in the aroma.
