3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Dark black pour small tan soapy head with good lacing. Coffee first note toasty malts a hint of vanilla a light bitterness. Average palate for a big stout. Flavor is a bit dry and a touch grainy almost like a bitter cocoa powder in taste and texture. Tiny bit of vanilla some lactose. Decent brew.

UPDATED: MAY 5, 2013 Draft. Brewed exclusively for Altera on the Square in Madison. Draft (Nitro?) Dark walnut. Medium to large beige head; reducing but fair retention. Semi sweet, roasty, chocolate, milk sugar, hops, coffee. The coffee aroma and flavor marry nicely with the other creating a nice balance. A little dryness and bitterness but not alot - fairly clean and smooth. Soft, mildly creamy, fairly thin (esp for the style) but by no means watery. Consider me pleasantly surprised with this whole package.
