Very true to the style that originated in Köln (Cologne), Germany. Our Kolsch is unfiltered and cold-conditioned. The result is a beer that is clean and refreshing, with a crisp finish. It is agreeable without being boring, the beer liver’s session ale.

Not a lot of flavor or aroma. Some people may like this type of beer but for meit doesn’t do it.

Draught pint at Milwaukee Grill in Janesville, WI, October 12th. Very pale yellow-gold, not quite clear, with just a bit of lasting head...sweet aroma of honey’d lemon and apple, a bit of bready malt, no apparent hop character that I could detect...and quite sweet on the tongue as well, in fact possibly the sweetest kolsch I’ve had. It’s all lightly caramelized bready malts here with perhaps a hint of apple juice, and while it does dry out and attain a touch of bitterness at the finish, it’s not enough to save it. On the thin/watery side, moderate carbonation. Judging from other reviews, I’m wondering if I got an off pint - in fact I almost asked if the waitress was sure it was the correct beer, but they didn’t have anything else on tap that I hadn’t had, and nothing else that it could have been. Hmm. Well, I’ll probably grab a bottle sometime to compare, but this sample sure didn’t work for me.

Picked up a single 12-oz bottle at Riley’s Wines of the World in Madison, Wisconsin. Also sampled at various festivals and at the One Barrel brewery in Madison, Wisconsin. Pours a semi-clear golden pale yellow colored brew with a thick off-white head that slowly dissipates and leaves behind some excellent lacing. Aroma of golden grain malt, some fruity esters, floral hops and a touch of lemon. Taste is medium bodied, fruity with golden grain malt, some passion fruit, lemon and a touch of yeast. Finish is semi-sweet and a short mild bitterness followed by a clean cut aftertaste. Drink as fresh as possible to get the Koslch style beer. After a few months of aging, more fruity esters come out.

Bottle. Milk, lemon, biscuit malt, and straw aroma. Yellow with large white head. Moderately sweet light citrus, barley malt, and mildly bitter straw flavor. Okay body.

12oz bottle from random Fondy bottle shop. Yellowish orange pour. White head. Tangy fruits, lemon, sweet malts in the nose. Taste is of same, not as good as the nose. LIght to medium bodied. The carbonation is constant. The blend is ok, not better. A touch of an alcohol presence. Finishes tangy sweet. Shrug? Fair for style, but no better. 12.8

On tap at HopCat-Madison, WI., and served to a nonic pint displaying a hazed, light gold color, with a frothy layer of soft white head foam, and waves to dots & dashes of lacing. The nose started with a subtle, light lager/pils scent, then soft grain, and hints of lemon & pit fruit. Light to medium bodied, with okay carbonation that followed with of hint of seltzer/sulfur, the taste added a pleasant dryness to the low, citrus-like bitterness, although the texture/mouthfeel showed some watery character and thinned a bit. An acceptably crisp & clean hybrid.

Kinda fruity for a koelsch but really tasty. It’s cloudy and blond. There is a touch of grainy sweetness and this would probably come off as full bodied but for the lightning effect of the vigorous carbonation. Drinkable and nice.

Gold. Nose is tinny malt with citrus. Flavor is tart, almost cider-like with more citrus and mild wet malt. Drinkable enough.

Had a pint at the taproom in Madison, very nice welcoming spot. Having just drank some Kolsch in Cologne Germany on a unplanned train stop there I was happy to see One Barrel had one on offer It was pale straw with a nice white head, hit the ABV expectation, thankfully they stayed true and didn’t mess it up with hops. nice and refreshing, I really enjoyed it.

On tap at the brewpub. Comes a hazy pale gold with a small white head. Mild aroma of malt, grain, and fruit. Taste is malt, wheat, grass, and fruit. Decent enough.
