Draft at brewery: Dark brown with a short, dark head. Aroma is camp smoke, chocolate. Taste is overly sweet,...molasses, berry, smoke. Good, but the smoke is overshadowed by the sweetness.

Draft @ brewery. Black brown with a minimal head. Meaty smoky malt aroma. Ashy acrid smoke flavor, coffee, lightly sweet chocolate. Medium body and carbonation. Unfortunately the smoked malt tipped over into acridity. Smoked beers are my favorites, but this one went a little too far overboard.

Pint at the brewery (Lansing, IL). The sampler made me bite. Pours a richer deep brownish black hue, good deeper dark body. Ruby copper edges show some glow, some frothy tannish head atop dies down. Laces small. Aromas are hickory and woody, nice smokey meat, some jerky, toasty and roasty malts. Some cocoa. Nice richer flavors. Initial is medium bodied, a touch of sweetness, dry roast and smokey elements. Melllow smoked meat, some toasty malts, cocoa and coffee. Backend is smokey, pretzels, some biscuits. Nice touches of oak, smoke. Tasty. Finish is smokey, dry, lingering. Not that cherrywood feel. Really nice, nice body, cocoa and some coffee, sweeter biscuits and toffee. Nice smokey element, toffee, some roast. Really nice beer.
