Draft pour on tap at the brewery (Lansing, IL). Pours a richer deep amber pour, some glowing orange and bits of copper, darkness in the middle with some deeper hues. Frothy whitish head atop dies to a small layer, laces small. Aromas are some firm carmelization, bit of toffee, dried fruit. Gentle dryness, earthy hops, bit of heat. Some gentle apple and fruity ester, touch of plum, gentle kiss of cherry. Initial is lighter end of medium bodied, offering some lovely dark fruit, plum and a bit of cherry, pitty with some gentle tartness, some more plum, touches of bready malts, bit of apple, with some pear, gentle heat. Bit of vanilla, honey, with some straw, bready. Bit of heat. A really nice red and dark fruit presence up front, really different than the typical Dubbel Iím used to. Quite enjoyable, lighter and less malt driven, a bit of heat. Nice and something that wouldnít normally stand out to me.. but itís different and really is enjoyable in my opinion.
