thedm (3407), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Aug 3, 2007 This draft brew from the brew pub poured a medium sized head of foamy finely sized light brown colored bubbles that were long lasting and left behind a semi-opaque dark red brown colored body and a good lacing. . The mouth feel was very tingly at the start and at the finish with a mellow vinous aftertaste. The flavor contained notes of hops sweet vinous dough and brown malt. Delicious and one I would certainly buy again. Ughsmash (3148), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA May 17, 2007 On tap at Onion. Poured a clear deeper reddish-brown with a medium cap of well-retained creamy beige head. Aroma was of sweet, toasty caramel and darker malts, with mild herbal hop presence. Flavor had a heavy focus on dark and toasty caramel and brown sugary malts.. some woody bitterness gets swallowed up by the heavy sweetness.. finish was warm, sweet, and satisfying. Medium-bodied or a hair heavier on the palate.. quite sweet, but grew on me... just the right level of carbonation. Nice one. sersdf (889), chicago, Illinois, USA Aug 15, 2006 appearance might have been better if it wasn’t served in the pilsener glass. had hardly any aroma. tasted sweet and decent. Cornfield (4409), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA Aug 15, 2006 Strange brewpub offering for the Summer, but, what the heck... The body is a clear golden brown and it’s capped with a creamy beige head. It smells of caramel with lightly roasted malts - all fairly faint. The flavor kicks up a notch, more roasted flavor, more malt sweetness, and a light earthy hopping to balance it out. I questioned the "doppel" part of it until the finish when a good nip of alcohol kicked in. I wish this joint would let us in on the ABVs for their brews. I might’ve had another.

Onion Pub & Brewery, Lake Barrington, IL
