This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a medium sized head of foamy off-white colored bubbles that were mostly lasting and left behind a transparent softly carbonated and a fair lacing. The mild aroma was malty and sweet. The semi-thick mouth feel was weakly tingly at the start and at the finish. The flavor contained notes of malt mild hops nutmeg mild spice and semi-sweet.

Must be rapidly approaching the last remnants of their brewed on-premises brews. This looks appealing...deep golden pour, moderate head and active beading. The nose was lightly roasted sweet caramel malts. The flavors were pretty well arrayed on the malty side...very little hop presence...all caramely and stuff. The carbonation though was way over blown...but generally pretty decent beer.

On tap at Onion. Poured a clear medium golden with caramel accents.. short white head and nice lacing as it descended. The aroma was certainly on the sweet side and was enticing.. toasty caramel, some herbal notes, and faint fruit representin’. Quite tasty as well.. toasty caramel paired well with waves of cereal grains, drier leafy bitterness, and subtle dark fruits.. left a rather long, sweet, and toasty impression at the finish. Lighter-bodied, but fills out well over the middle.. well-balanced.

(04.25.06) On tap at Onion Brewpub, Barrington, IL. Poured hazy amber with small white head. No discernable carbonation. Sweet malt aroma. Light bodied beer that starts with light sweet malt and toffee/toasty malt flavors. Finished with light malt fade. Though thin and watery, this is a decent drinkable beer that went well with food.

Lightly hazed amber with no head. Aromas didn’t seem overly-special at the time, but I couldn’t stop smelling it and picking out different things: honey, oats, bready malts, clove, burnt toast, dusty touches of ripe fruit and low amounts of alcohol. Flavor wasn’t as impressive with malted-sweetness followed by a spicy finish. I would probably not recognize this as a Marzen, but it was interesting nonetheless.

UPDATED: OCT 3, 2005 Clear dark amber body. Nutty caramel malt aroma. More caramel sweetness in the flavor with nutty components taking a back seat. Leafy hops are present. Meh.

Something darker! A lighter amber color. Still bubbly, even though it was the sixth sample I tried. A thick, helles-like nose and flavor, leaves a sharp aftertaste in the throat.

Had this on draught in Lake Barrington, Illinois. Clear and light brown in color, nose and taste of grape soda and baked bread, taste peters out pretty quickly, balanced but bland.
