Arnie (272), Chicagoland, IL, Illinois, USA Jul 26, 2005 Nice dark amber color. Clean, mild nose, and a strong bitter flavor. The first rye I’ve had, and I enjoyed it. Good and thick, but not as heavy as some porters. gws57 (1003), Saint Charles, Illinois, USA Jul 19, 2005 Had this on draught in Lake Barrington, Illinois. My second rye ale. Medium brown in color and clear, quite hoppy and bitter, yet smooth with lots of baked bread in the finish. This one was pretty good. StewardofGondor (1934), Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Jul 18, 2005 Clear bronze with a small pocked whitish/grey bubbly head. Good smell - toasty hazelnuts, pumpernickel bread and some caramel sweetness. Fizzy upfront, transitioning to a dry rye complex and unsalted pretzels. Carbonation is too distracting and is hard to get past. frankenkitty (1832), Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA Jun 20, 2005 Served as a deep copper with a sno-cone-ish, rocky, fluffy head that lasted. Light malts amidst moderate hop in aroma with an earthen spiciness from the rye. Moderate bitterness throughout with some acidity at the end. Oily yet creamy mouthfeel. Feasible as an APA.

Cornfield (4409), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA Jun 18, 2005 Updated: Jul 11, 2005Not a bad drink, pouring a ruddy brown body with a beautiful, retained creamy off-white head that coated the glass in sheets as I drank. The aroma had some nice citric (grapefruit or lemon zest) hops to it along with some peppery spiciness and a slight acidic tartness. It’s an interesting blend of grains, presumably with rye in the lead, and is fruity with a white pepper bite. Oddly, it seemed less hoppy as my drinking proceeded. Still not a bad ale.

BrewFest, Elgin, IL 06/18/2005
