On draught 12/31/08 at the brewery, the sweetness was an unexpected surprise. Should have tried a sample first as it didnt pair well with my steak. But what a malty explosion of sweetness! Flavor that hit me was a shock: this is an absolute malt bomb! It is cloyingly sweet, with distinct notes of chocolate, caramel, and sweet fruit. I suppose the blend is tasty, for some, but this is just so far removed from my palate preferences. jleblanc (4), , Massachusetts, USA does not count | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Sep 23, 2008 Updated: Oct 29, 2009From Tap. Clear deep amber red color. Bright white head, medium head retention. Medium carbonation and body.
Intense fruitty malt sweetness on front of pallet with tones of grape esters dates and prunes in the middle. Raisin flavor on the backend of the pallet with definite alcohol warming factor.
