motelpogo (4111), Plzen, Czech Republic Mar 27, 2008 on tap at vinarna hrozen, plzen. steady golden, light honeyed weet-bix aroma, faint leathery touch of honey which just dulls any hop character this might have otherwise had
Radek Kliber (3278), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 30, 2008 Bottle 500 ml
Appearance: Amber like brew , random large sparkle with medium white head that was reduced to light fizz. Nose: Clean aroma of organic honey , light flower hints followed. Flavor/Palate : Medium bodied , honey with gentle green bitterness. Grassy middle with metallic bite. Good balanced honey accented beer. It is there but Bohemian hops made it extra dimension. May 22, 2008 Bottle ( děkujim pěkně Quack-Duckovi !): Golden coloured, some floaties visible, bigger loose white head; sweet-malty nose with some herbal hops and a tinge of vegetables; light to moderate sweet-bitter flavour, light to medium bodied; a tinge of acidity in thev short sweet-bitter finish. Not very pleasant, to je patok........... MoritzF (3648), Ruhrpott, Germany May 5, 2008 (bottle, courtesy of Quack-Duck) Unclear, golden colour with a thick blonde foamy head. Sweet, slightly honey-fruity malty nose with a light ethereal and alcoholic note. Moderately sweet flavour, light to medium bodied with a soft and chalky mouthfeel. Pale malt character with a tinge of honey and a light medicinal touch; slightly sweet and bitter finish with a tinge of acidity (05.05.08). Glouglouburp (1876), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Apr 7, 2008 Back from a Czech Republic pub-crawl this is part of my express ratings for the “typical” Světlý 11°- (Czech light Pils), Světlý 12°+ (Czech Pils), Polotmavý (Czech Amber Lagers) and Tmavý (Czech Black Lagers). Non-typical beers will receive personalized descriptions after the express ratings. ----------------------------------------------------------------
How: Bottle at U Radnice, Prague
The look: Clear blonde body with a small white head
To me a typical Czech Světlý 12° and above is: Well malted body with plenty of biscuits and cereals. Sweetness level is in the light-medium range with some honey flavours and a light caramel presence (3/4 honey, 1/4 caramel). Fruity flavour limited to a light citrus flavour. Medium carbonation. Finish is dry and moderately bitter with a light citric touch. After-taste of dry grassy/herbal hops with a light dry spiciness character.
This one: As above but with a simpler honeyed-cereals body and lacking on the hops front.
