Aarleks (402), Sydney, Australia Apr 19, 2008 Tap at the Opera Bar: When I first saw this was on tap I shuddered. However, when I learned that it was made by Redoak I began to be curious. You certainly can’t beat the location, and on a sunny afternoon watching the orange glow fade from the sky behind the Harbour Bridge you could be easily fooled into thinking this was also one of the great beers. Almost. The thing is, it is pretty solid. It has flavour. But it’s incredibly sweet. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if this was brewed ’for women’ as some brewers tend to do now. Anyway, it’s slightly cloudy gold with a solid white head. Mildly fruity aroma with a touch of spice. In the mouth the sweetness hits hard, but otherwise this is reasonably nice.
MBison (374), Southern Highlands, Australia Jul 4, 2008 On tap at the Redoak. Arrived a pale yellow with a slight hazy chill and a good sized, rocky, white head which was mostly lasting. Aroma was of sweet bready malts with orange zest, bubblegum, ripe bananas, coriander and light notes of cloves. Flavor was of creamy pear with sweet yeasty malts, orange zest, green grapes, dried banana, a hint of grain, coriander and some mild notes of cloves. Light bodied with lively carbonation, a creamy/dry mouthfeel and an ok finish.
