deft (69), Sweden Mar 22, 2008 50cl bottle at home. Red/brown color with medium tan head. Sweet smell, with nuts and bread. Taste is bitter and a bit hoppy and a long bitter aftertaste. I’ve had several of these and under the right conditions this one is wonderful.
KimJohansen (4294), Copenhagen V, Denmark Sep 19, 2008 Clear dark reddish amber with tiny beige head. Sweet aroma with roasted malt, caramel and hoppy notes. Flavour likewise with a bitter finish. DA (2472), Portland, Oregon City, Oregon, USA Aug 19, 2008 Pours dark mahogany with a beige head that leaves solid lacing behind. Smells of a Samuel Smiths beer, sort of minerally with an earthy hop nose. Malts are toasty and nutty, but still thin on the palate. Very similar to Samuel Smith winter warmer, but a touch more hops. The thin palate reminds me of oxidation, but doesn’t have the flavor, just the texture. Vac (2253), San Diego, California, USA May 28, 2008 Bottle at tasting at Chris Fischer’s (from Liars Club) house. Pours with an amber body topped by a thin to medium thick head with some lacing. It’s slightly sweet and malty with a touch ofbread. Light to medium bodied, watery and smooth. jgb9348 (1848), Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA May 27, 2008 Deep brown coloured body with a hazy tan head. Aroma of light spice, roasted malt, coffee and some nuts. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong malty flavour with potent pit fruit sweetness from grapes and prunes on top of nutty characteristics. Aftertaste shows some of the alcohol, a bit of the carbonation and some of the sweetness. Overall, a pretty good beer, but nothing entirely special from a Winter from Europe. I sampled this 500 mL bottle purchased on sale for US$3.99 from Chevy Chase Wine & Liquors in Washington, D.C. on 03-May-2008, sampled on 26-May-2008 on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. Crosling (1660), Loveland, Colorado, USA May 20, 2008 Bottle, Stockholm, Sweden. A dark brown beer with a full head. Hints of hazelnut and espresso cream in the fairly nice and expressive nose. Flavor shows some similarities, with sherry-like oxidation, and hints of coffee cream. A decent brew.
