muzzlehatch (4424), Burlington, Vermont, USA May 17, 2008 Updated: May 18, 2008 500 ml bottle from Winooski Beverage in Winooski, VT (May 2008) sampled at cellar temperature from a Samuel Smiths pint glass. A rugged, persistent off-white big-bubbled head crowns this translucent dark bronze/maple beauty, leaving thick lacing as it quite slowly disappears....interesting and strange aroma of caramel, vanilla, herbal/piney notes and some odd sweaty characteristics, overall more odd than anything, not unpleasant but not necessarily inviting either....smooth, full and rich body, nice malt extraction, a bit of smokiness and graininess towards the finish, tastes just a bit over the hill which wouldn’t be surprising really, hops are quite muted and dry, some piney/resinous notes show up with a bit of warmth....carbonation rather low and natural. Solid; I wish I could find an ESB or ESA this good available where I am for less than the $6 this sucker cost.

ATLBeerDog (233), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Oct 11, 2008 Updated: Oct 12, 2008From a brown 12 ounce bottle - Pours a slightly cloudy orange/yellow color. Smells sweet and hoppy. Below average carbonation. First sip is all grassy hops but is certainly missing a needed stronger malt backbone. unclemattie (1662), Georgia, USA Oct 11, 2008 500ml amber bottle. reddish deep amber color. hoppy nose with some sweet caramel. Light roasted flavor. Light bodied. very enjoyable. KimJohansen (4296), Copenhagen V, Denmark Sep 19, 2008 Clear dark reddish amber with tiny beige head. Sweet aroma with roasted malt, caramel and hoppy notes. Flavour likewise with a bitter finish. DA (2482), Portland, Oregon City, Oregon, USA Aug 19, 2008 Pours dark mahogany with a beige head that leaves solid lacing behind. Smells of a Samuel Smiths beer, sort of minerally with an earthy hop nose. Malts are toasty and nutty, but still thin on the palate. Very similar to Samuel Smith winter warmer, but a touch more hops. The thin palate reminds me of oxidation, but doesn’t have the flavor, just the texture.
